I know a police officer who reported a case of a woman of schizophrenia. After a cab driver was
stabbed with a knife, a 31-year-old African American women came to the emergency room
escorted by the police force. The patient stated that she had been raped by the driver and that
"dirty cops had brought me here" while in an emergency room, she was allowed to go to the
stationary psychiatric unit to determine competence for the assault of the driving cab.
The past of the patient was important for hearing visions and delusional delusions beginning at
14 years with a psychotic diagnosis of severe depression. She was diagnosed as psychotic at the
age of eighteen with schizophrenia. She had numerous prior hospitals and history of ambulatory
compliance. Tobacco, alcohol and illegal drug use have no known past. Her family history has
been significant for schizophrenia.
Her grandmother, who as a child was her primary caregiver, reported abusive behaviour. The
patient continued to claim sexual attacks during the hospitalization.
If we talk about the individual’s impact, needless to say, it will be difficult to have a normal life
like getting married and having kids as sexual activities might trigger her mental problems (van
Os, 2011). Also, when we go on a community impact, people will be scared to be around her as
she may accuse them of assault and the police would not take her seriously even if she was
attacked, which will, in turn, affect the society’s trust on enforcement on a large scale (Allardyce
& Boydell, 2005).
