Reflection on scholarly voice
Scholarly writing, popularly known as academic writing, is the genre of writing which is
used in academic fields. Scholarly writing is based on solid evidence and its objective and
substance is clear, specific and mechanically correct. Considering the fact that I aspire to be a
scholarly writer in future, the feedbacks given by my instructor have helped me a lot in
understanding my faults as well as recovering the same. For instance, from the feedback obtained
from week 1 feedback, I learned the concept of “tab” which I was not initially aware of. I also
learned other basic things from the feedback like where to appropriately put comma in an in-text
citation. I also gained knowledge about the difference in reference format of a book and an
article. The essay that had been selected was about APA citation style. After going through the
essay, I understood the perspective of the students for which basic errors while citation takes
place. Not only this, the mentioned essay also helped me to gain knowledge about how can APA
citation be done in an appropriate way. The feedback obtained while selecting the quotes for
week 3 helped me to understand the main points of the essay. I had to change my initial
selections since my instructor in his feedback enlightened me that since findings and discussion
are the major part of an article, main quotes should be selected from those portions.
