INTRODUCTION
In general terms, project development can be defined as the process of carrying out wide range
of activities in order to attain desired results and outcomes. However, process of project development
consists of design, develops, analyses and evaluate. In regard to this, project management can be
defined as the process of planning, organizing, direction, controlling, encouraging and making
optimum utilization of resources to attain the desired set of goals and objectives (Kitchenham and
Taylor, 2007). In the present report, researcher focuses on evaluating the approaches and methods used
in developing a project as well as implementing it in effective manner so that desired results and
outcomes can be attained.
Present report illustrates the renovation project of a school and the main aim of top level
management of school is to improve the overall educational environment of the workplace. In regard to
this, researcher identifies the factors that contribute to the process of project selection so that suitable
outline and specification of the project can be set and accordingly development of new product can be
carried out in appropriate way. Thereafter, through the help of these defined specifications, researcher
will develop suitable plan and define the resources and timescales so that feasible strategy can be
employed for the implementation of project. Further, report highlights the significance of monitoring
the activities and accordingly evaluating the variances between actual and budgeted figures. The main
purpose of researcher behind carrying out this strategy is to enhance the knowledge and skills of the
learners and readers regarding different concepts and aspects of project management. Lastly, researcher
in concluding the report provides suitable recommendations for the improvement of the defined project.
PART 1 – TASK 1
1.1 Factors responsible for the success of project selection
There are several factors that are responsible for the success of project selection. However, it is
the duty of project manager to make sure that he/she evaluate and analyse each and every aspect related
to current environment and trends and accordingly make the successful selection of project.
Furthermore, these factors consist of financial, human resource, administrative and miscellaneous and
marketing factors (Lokey, 2012). It is the responsibility of project manager and senior authority of
school to understand the feasibility of all these factors and then make a smart and effective decisions
regarding renovation of the school premises.
Financial factors: These are considered as the most significant factors because in order to carry

Plan Development 7 + 8 + 9 + 13 6 + 3 + 2 + 1 = 12
Implementation of plan
according to the specification
15 + 16 + 17 + 20 3 + 3 + 3 + 2 = 11
Monitoring 23+24+25+26 1 + 2 + 1 + 3 = 7
Closure 28+29+30+31 1 + 2 + 1 + 1 = 5
Total 49
On the basis of above defined network diagram, critical path of renovation project has been
evaluated. However, through the help of this technique of project management the total number of days
required for the renovation project to complete has been calculated. With the critical path of 3 + 4 + 5 +
7 + 8 + 9 + 13 + 15 + 16 + 17 + 20 + 23 + 24 + 25 + 26 + 28 + 29 + 30 + 31 = 49 days. Thus, in order
to complete the renovation of school in effective manner, project manager and senior authority of
