Introduction
In the last 50 years, information technology has increasingly occupied a central place in
the way people work, interact and conduct business. Technological advances have not only been
in information technology though, they have been felt in almost every other sector in the
economy. The result has been more production, while greatly minimizing the cost of doing
business, and making work easier.
Information technology
Information technology has changed the way people communicate. It is now much faster
to get messages across with the use of print media, social media and the proliferation of internet
use around the globe. Through the internet, businesses are able to offer better and faster service
to their customers. Things such as mobile banking, online banking have all become
commonplace, enabling bank customers to transact from the ease of their homes, and enabling
them to spend less time on this. Hotels, airlines and other businesses have not been left behind,
exploiting science and technology to ease bookings as well as a better way of interacting with
their customers (Sutton, 2013).
Other science and technology interventions
Through the years, various other things have been improving, assisted wholly or partially
by information technology. The health sector is one of these. Health information management
has been transformed from being paper based to being electronic. This has helped doctors make
better diagnosis and do it faster, improving the clinical outcomes of their patients. Automakers
have also felt the positive effects of technology, incorporating it into their designs. It is now
possible to have cars which rely heavily on IT for their operations, as well as diagnostics in case
they have issues. This has helped ensure that they are safer, easier to operate and maintain. Other

sectors such as education have also been impacted. Teachers are now able to use technology to
improve the retention rate of students, share information easily, and make education more

Conclusion
Over time, it can be argued that every sector in the economy, as well as our everyday
lives have been affected by technology. The nature of technology is such that it keeps improving.
as it does, it is incorporated even further into the work and life of people, leading to a scenario
where every person, and aspect of life will have at least a significant interaction with technology.
In doing this, it has transformed work and life for almost every inhabitant on the planet.
