INTRODUCTION
Project management is being defined as work done by team to reach the goals of the
project. The required information related to project is presented in documentation which is
developed when project is going to start (Tereso and et. al., 2019). Project management is
basically application of skills, knowledge, method and process to achieve the objective. Scottish
power is an energy producing company is the distribution network operator with this they also
supply the electricity and gas to homes. This report will evaluate project in Scottish power that
they are working and its characteristics and role of project manager in the project. Further
justification is done for theoretical framework and methodologies of project and its environment.
Moreover, the composition and management of team is project is determined in critical manner.
Project and its characteristics
Project is a great opportunity for any firm or individual to reach towards the goal related
to the business and non-business objectives more efficiently. With the help of project the desired
changes are managed to reduce the failure, the project is specific procedure to measure the result
as per the requirements (Chen and et. al., 2019).
Scottish power is an energy producing company, and they are having project to create a
social media marketing strategy. They have developed this project to grow the business in the
international market and attract more customer towards the company. This project is one of the
opportunity for Scottish through which more customer in international market came to know
about the company. Project of creating social media marketing strategy include large number of
activities which are planned to perform in particular time frame.
Characteristics are:
Temporary: The project to implement the strategy related to use of social media marketing is
done for a fixed period. In this project is started with the initiation of its activities and it closes
with the completion and achievement of goal and objectives (Demirkesen and Ozorhon, 2017).
In this Scottish power uses to plan about the social media marketing approach that they need to
implement in the country.

Unique deliverable: the project always have some kind of deliverable things that can be to
modify or introduce new product, services or any other type of result (Morcov, Pintelon and
Kusters, 2020). Scottish is try to implement a marketing strategy through social media platforms
and in this company will inspect the problems and issues that are coming in between this process
before the project get started.
Progressive elaboration: The project progress is being checked and investigation and
improvement become accessible. In this Scottish power make sure that activities which are done
for the project is being more accurate.
Role of project manager
The project manager has wider variety of things to perform as they are mainly responsible to
plan, organize, directing, to complete the particular project. The major role which are performed
by project manager are:
Plan and develop thought of project: As to think of effective idea which is effective to perform
the duties. The manager makes sure to meet the expectation to create a planning related to
project.
Develop of team: When the planning related to implementation of social media marketing
strategy is done then manager uses to develop an efficient team which is more than capable to
meet the expectation and further guide and train them as per their responsibility (Moura,
Carneiro and Diniz, 2017).
Monitor the progress: When the activities are being distributed among the employees of the
team then manager uses to monitor and inspect the progress and develop the timeline to complete
the task.
Sole the issues: When the team work to achieve the target of the project then there are number of
issue so the manager here perform its duty to resolve all the default which arise in between.
Project management methodologies
There are different type of project management methodologies that can be used by
project manager that are:
The scrum methodology: This is a process in which team uses to respond more quickly and
efficiently as per the change (Matos,Andet. al., 2019). In this it aims to deliver the result by

improving the communication, collective working within Scottish power. This emphasizes the
effective way to take the decision and try to work more valuable feedback. This is short period
work when the project is going to complete within the short time frame.
Agile principle with scrum framework: This principle is one of the flexible work type while
managing the project. When the Scottish power manager will make use of this principle when
implementing social media marketing approach then company can adapt to change. As the
method of agile is comparatively similar to scrum and with this different methodologies are
being carried out. Agile one of the effective way to do work more flexible while deliver the
project. As it allow manager to make correction in the previous process which is completed in
that also manager can easily make changes too accordingly (Fornero, 2021).
The waterfall methodology: This is one of the most effective and adoptive type of methodology
which can be used by Scottish power to implement its strategy. This is set of schedule, resource
and scope which can be moved through different type of execution activities. In this project
manager uses to perform a particular task at one time and when it is completed then manager
move to the next stage and previous task is not being customized after that. This type of
methodology is being used in the construction industry where things get fixed and not need to
make any major changes afterwards. In this manager of project uses to define the idea of the
annual outcome to the employees which are involved in the process of project. There is no
change in the timeline and it remains completely single and more rigid while defining the role.
The six sigma methodology: This methodology is used to manage the quality and also control
the wastage. The manager who uses to follow this approach try to minimize the cost and lead-
time and focus on increasing the quality (Addyman,Pryke and Davies, 2020). Six sigma is aim to
reduce the wastage and create expectation through project as this methodology emphasize on the
project and trying to reduce the cost and enhance to quality. Financial performance is also being
checked in this to improve the process. There are many organizations in the market who are
using this approach to reach their success and Scottish power can also make use of this approach
to implement its social media marketing strategy and reduce the wastage and cost as well.
From the above explained methodologies for the project of Scottish power there are many
options that manager can adopt for better management of things. The agile principle and scrum
methodology is being one of the most suitable tool that is available to Scottish power. With the
help of this method the manager can develop the needed activities for the team members and

further inspect their effectiveness within the work they have done to achieve the goal. When the
team member had done any kind of mistake then manager can also re correct it in the previously
done activities (Wibowo And et. al., 2017). The agile is help the manager to provide chance to
use resource more effectively by the employees and also provide option to make changes in the
previous task.
Project life cycle
Their are different phase involved in the project life cycle which explain the activities and
task which are involved in the process to perform a particular kind of task. An effective path is
being created by life cycle process from starting to end (Karriker, Madden and Katell, 2017).
This life cycle of project show high level process to deliver better successful project. As it has a
unique idea related to the project explaining the objectives and goal of project. Basically there
are four phases involves in the project management life cycle.
Initiation: In this business uses to identify the need, opportunities and issues that are coming
when team is working towards the objective. In this step the company uses to identify whether
the current project is feasible and check the project which is going to perform by the company is
deliverable. As in Scottish power the company is implementing the social media marketing
approach to grow and expand the business. For that manager in Scottish power uses to make aim
and objectives related to the project and the objectives that need to be achieved in this. Further
they determine scope and identify stakeholders that are going to invest in the company so that
activities related to the project are effectively conducted.
Planning: When the things are arranged as per the need of the project second stage in this is to
plan the things which need to be done within the project. Manager in this break the things in
different parts of activities and allot that task to different groups. Further the manager prepare
schedule so that things get done within the particular time frame (Chen, Miller,and Chen, 2021).
In the project of Scottish power manager include number of activities that are creation of
planning related to project in this timeline and way to perform the task are determined. The
budget which is required in the process of project activities are undertaken and help to
investment with project. Moreover, the resources are also being gathered which are needed in
the process for better completion of activities.

Execution: this is the next stage when the planning and gathering of resource is completed and
manager get the approval of things to be performed (Henry, Buyl, and Jansen, 2019). This phase
includes the implementation of planned things into action and project manager uses to track the
things so that work go in right direction. Scottish power manager uses to allot the work as per
the capabilities of the employees. Manager develops the task and organize the workflows and
check all are working without any extra burden. Communicating with the employees to transfer
the needful information to them and provide updates to the stakeholders to remain satisfied.
Monitoring of quality with the work is also done so that things are done with maximum
efficiency.
Closure: When the team members have putted maximum efforts to complete the project then it
shows the closure is being started. In this manager uses to release the resources and check the

Team management and composition
In this process the team members are being managed and make sure that all are
performing their duties as per their respective assignments (Shastri, Hoda and Amor, 2021). In
this the authorities are defined well and member of team are totally focussed to achieve common
goal. The following elements are being important in this:
Documentation of process: The activities which are included in the process are being written on
the document that can be used to check and determine the effectiveness of the process. Managers
in this make records related to the activities which are involved in the project and work as per the
requirement so that no mismatch of task get happened. With this all the member know their work
which is related to the project and work in right direction to achieve the individual and common
goal. The performance of the employees are being ranked and recorded in the documents so that
it will helpful in the future to know individual and group contribution towards completion of
project.

Complete the individual deliverables: The project is done when all the allotment are being
completed by the employees of the team (Ribeiro, Amaral and Barros, 2021). So in this process
managers of Scottish power will make sure that all the assigned duties are reached its goal and
all have completed their individual task within the given time frame so that things get achieved
within the time and all are work with maximum potential in the project. Manager of Scottish
power make sure all the employees are making use of resource optimally so that effectively
utilisation of resource is being done.
Provide expertise: the involvement of expertise is always necessary and required by the team
members so while managing the activities managers of Scottish power make sure all the task
have the expert which will resolve the issues. With this the employees of each department get
more motivated towards their individual work and take the required guidance from experts
whenever they need of it. In this process manager make sure all the experts in particular field are
performing in that task in which they are expert so that they also can help other to perform their
best.
Work with members to meet business requirement: In this manager of Scottish power used to
evaluate the business needs and make sure that all are working in right direction so that work get
effectively and efficiently done (Hoonsopon and Puriwat, 2021). Manager should know the
actual need of the business and motivate the employees accordingly so that common goal can be
achieved within the given time frame. As the social media is being one of the main aspect in
which company need to improve to reach its customer base more effectively. With the better use
of project activities the things get done within the time and resource of company get utilize
optimally.
Contribution of project objectives: The manager need to contribute all its efforts towards the
actual objective of the project. For that manager of Scottish power check that the activities which
they have created and identified in the process of project completion are ultimately contributing
to the main goal of the project. There should be no other activities which is not related to the
project or not having any contribution towards the completion of common goal.
CONCLUSION
This report concludes that the project management is an effective way to undertake the
activities of project in this knowledge, skills are being used to provide the values to require

people. There are number of phase which are involved in this to work step by step towards the
goal of project so that idea can be converted into actual product. Further it concluded that project
have temporary goal that need to achieve within particular time frame. The project manager uses
to undertaken different activities to manage the activities as they have to plan and execute the
things and monitor accordingly so that all the activities are done within time and effectiveness.
