Report
AI Summary
This report provides an overview of secondary data sources in healthcare, distinguishing them from primary data sources. It emphasizes the importance of both types of data in healthcare settings, particularly for patient health records and evaluating past and present health conditions. The report discusses the reliability of secondary data, highlighting the need to validate it based on the reliability of the primary data. It defines and provides examples of key data sources, including databases (e.g., national electronic disease surveillance), registries (e.g., birth registry), and indices (e.g., disease index). The report also references relevant literature to support its analysis of secondary data sources and their applications within the healthcare industry.

SECONDARY DATA SOURCES
1. Primary source of data is defined as the real time data and contains the raw information
which is collected with the aid of the observations, surveys, experiments, interview, and
questionnaire. Whereas secondary source of data is demarcated the data which relies on
the primary data. It relates to the past and the data is collected with the help of literature
reviews or by reviewing the primary data collected (Prada-Ramallal et al., 2018).
2. In the healthcare both the data are vital as primary data aid to keep a track of the patient’s
current health records, whereas when the data is collected from the primary data for data
base and the registries, it is considered as secondary data. Both of these data helps to
evaluate the present and past health condition of the patient (Prada-Ramallal, Takkouche
& Figueiras, 2017).
3. Reliability of the secondary data can be validated by measuring the reliability of the
primary data chosen for the research. If the data can be applied widely with little or no
variation in the result, it is said to be reliable (Junior, Maillard & Ferrari, 2015).
4. Data base: It is the collection of the data of various forms
Example: National electronic disease surveillance, which is the internet based
arrangement for the public health (Sung et al., 2016).
Registries: It contains all the information about a certain events in the chronological
order.
Example: Birth registry, which includes the list of all the birth that took place in the given
time.
Indices: It lists all the information related to certain disease, physician or the patient.
Example: Disease index, which includes all the procedures, service, physician name
related to that disease.
