INTRODUCTION
The present report is based on the career research in the security industry. The current
report aims to identify the skills, knowledge and experience that is required for me in order to
pursue a career in the security industry. For the same, I will conduct a primary as well as
secondary research for the purpose of determining general trends that influence the security
industry. It will also include the impact of globalization and technology in the security industry.
MAIN BODY
General trends influencing the security industry
According to Ukwandu, E., and et.al (2022), in the coming future, there will be use of
Artificial intelligence in various scenarios worldwide. The security industry is working towards
enhancing the security and protection of data by introducing automated event alerts, mine surface
detection and much more. By observing the expanding use of Artificial intelligence, in the
coming future artificial intelligence will be used in various fields and situations in the world.
Today, artificial intelligence, is being used in several applications to resolve certain troubles
throughout the industry. With the help of AI-powered biometrics, a company can analyse not just
facial expressions and physical features of a person, it can also identify human behaviour which
are not considered as secured. Therefore, AI is one factor that is going to remain in the industry
for long and help in increasing the security features.
As investigated by Nalla, and Gurinskaya, (2020), it can be said that in the coming future
cloud- based solutions will be essential in the security industry. AI is a new trend in the security
industry but cloud based solutions is an existing trend which is expanding continuously within
the security industry. In today's times, businesses need their processes to be simple yet efficient
and one such trend is cloud based solutions. Cloud based solutions helps a business to configure
devices remotely, maintaining and updating security features, fixing bugs and serve the clients
with value added services.

Alhayani, and et.al (2021) states that biometrics, face scan detectors and iris scanners will
bring higher security and effectiveness in the processes of security industry. Previously, the
companies and businesses used to use pin codes, passwords and ID cards for the purpose of
providing security. But now, the security industry is moving towards the use of biometrics, face
scan detectors and iris scanners.
According to Ko (2020), machine learning plays an important role in the cybersecurity as
it helps the businesses to determine different patterns and remember them in order to prevent the
occurrence of happening of certain attacks in the future. Machine learning helps the security
industry in becoming more active, reduce the business’s expense and work effectively.
Required skills, experience and knowledge
Based on the findings of primary research, it can be stated that there are certain personal
skills required in order to pursue a career in the security industry. They are as follows:
Communication skills
One of the most important skills required for pursuing a career in the security industry
can be stated as communication skill. The messages that are transferred by the security
professionals within the security industry requires a person to convey their messages either in the
written form or verbally. This involves passing the information very precisely and provide the
receipt with sufficient information in order to understand a particular situation. Therefore, in
order to be an efficient security professional, one needs to have excellent communication skills.
Listening skills
Listening skills are just as important as having communication skills within the security
professional. A security professional must be able to understand the situation and should be able
listen to it efficiently in order to process the information received and formulate further strategies
in order to enhance the securitization process.
Customer service
A person or an individual who urges to become a security professional in the near future
must be able to develop the quality to satisfy the needs and wants of the customer. As a
professional in the field of security, an individual will be exposed communicating and interacting
with the clients in order to understand their issue and problems faced by them (Jamai, Azzouz,
and Saïdane, 2020). Developing the customer service within a person helps the individual in

providing efficient services to the clients by effectively understanding the desires and
specifications of the consumers.
Team work
Each and every professional that works within the security has its own expertise in a
particular field but a company is only able to provide results to its clients by way of joint efforts.
Therefore, it is important for an individual who wants a career in the field of security to be able
to work individually and within a team in order to provide exclusive results to the clients.
Problem-solving
As a security professional, there will be a stack of problem in front of an individual on a
regular basis which needs to solved as soon as possible (Mantha, and de Soto, 2019.). Therefore,
it is essential for an individual to develop an attitude of problem solving which can help the
company solving the problems and provide the company with better results.
With the help of secondary research, areas of expertise which will be the need of the hour
for the security professional have been explained below:
According to Limba, Stankevičius, and Andrulevičius, (2019), the young and emerging
security professional must have the knowledge and expertise in cloud security. It has been
identified that there is a shortage of employees within the cloud security but is very important
tool within the security industry. Cloud security is a security measure that is used by companies
in order to secure their data, cloud based infrastructure and applications stored within the cloud.
It is an essential tool, an in order to pursue a career as a security professional, one should have
expertise in the cloud security.
As investigated by Nigam, and Talcott, 2019, it is analysed that data science and
analytics is one of the most important skill that is required in order to choose a career in the
security industry. This is so because, it has been observed that many professionals have
implemented the use of cybersecurity such as machine learning, big data tools and behaviour
based analytics which requires a data scientist to formulate new algorithms within the industry.
Evaluation
I have opted for a job role of data scientist within the security industry. I have chosen
data scientist as my career profession as I have done an internship and a diploma in the same
field. When I went for internship I learned many skills which can be useful for in pursuing a
career as a data scientist. These skills involve machine learning, programming, processing large

data sets and also learned SAS and various other statistical tools which helps a data scientist to
analyse the data. The diploma helped me in learning languages such as Python, C/C++ and SQL
which can be used to organize unstructured data into structured data sets and analyse the
information. The diploma also helped me in learning SAS software and other analytical tools
which includes Spark, Hive, Hadoop. This helps an individual in extracting valuable information
from the previously formulated structured data sets. Though, I learned these software during my
diploma course, however, the internship helped in understanding the implementation of these
tools in the practice life.
The sequence of getting a diploma degree in the field of data scientist and the working as
an intern for the same role, helped me in analysing and understanding my interest towards this
job role. I think the profession of data scientist involves the use of critical thinking, analysis and
the use of technical software such as SAS and the use of languages attracts me towards this
career option. I think I have all the soft skills that are required in order to pursue a career as a
data scientist (Alani, and Alloghani, 2019). These skills include strong communication skills,
problem solving skills, strong knowledge of the business and great data intuition. A great data
intuition is the most important skill that is required for a data scientist as it is not possible for an
individual to analyse the information beyond surface in order to gain certain findings. Therefore,
intuitive data scientists know exactly when to look beyond the surface of a data in order to gain
insights for the same. I think the choice of my career as a data scientist is a future proof career as
it involves assisting new technologies in order to formulate solutions for problems by linking
similar data that can be used in future. This is helpful for the companies that uses Artificial
intelligence and machine learning.
CONCLUSION
From the above report, it can be concluded that security industry is changing rapidly.
With the help of secondary data, it has been determined that the machine learning, use of
artificial intelligence, security systems such as biometrics, face scan detectors, iris scanners are
emerging and are about to remain in the industry for long. The automated processes has
increased the demands of needed skills and expertise in order chose a career within the security
industry. The personal skills required for the same includes team work, communication skills,
listening skills, problem solving skills and customer services and the areas of expertise for the
same involves data science and analytics and machine learning.
