RATE VALIDATION OF GUIDEWIRE USING SELENIUM
Introduction
The paper discusses the efficiency attached to rate validation testing on guidewire use of
Selenium Automation and this will help in solving the problem undergone by various insurance
Companies in the United State. Validation testing is the term used in describing the process of
evaluating software usually at the end of development or during the development process. It
helps in ensuring that the outcome of the product satisfies the needs of the customers. It also
explains in detail the importance of using effective techniques that are capable of maximizing the
profit of the company (yielding a high rate of return on investment). In this talk, there will be the
explanation in detail what Guidewire entails and the companies can apply Selenium and other
available tools to perform automation process (Melo et al. 2018). Selenium automation is the
most appropriate techniques for the new automation process as it solves the limitation of the
manual validation testing process. The paper also assesses how both Digital Engagement and
Transformation is creating an impact in various sector and industry by covering the models
important in Guidewire. The last section of the paper will touch on the solution and the
conclusion for the entire paper.
Summary
After studying in detail the research of various experts on manual or traditional methods
associated with the process of evaluating the software usually during the development process, I
was convinced that the proposed use of Selenium automation can help solve the limitation of the
manual testing process (Opolski et al. 2015). Therefore, this white paper will support the idea by

starting the importance of automation to the business and how it can improve the performance of
the business. This is due to the fact that test automation act as a key factor in testing tasks.
Automated testing is customized and designed to offer flexibility while conforming to the
existing testing and security protocols. Test Automation also enables consistency and efficiency.
While manual testing is more tedious and time-consuming, automation is capable of the process
faster, repetitive, save cost, consistent, increases the return on investment and testing effort. Test
Automation also provides a consistent platform for the full testing requirements, as it helps in
reducing monotony arising during the testing process. The process assists in reducing errors due
to the availability of the instruction (Guo et al. 2017).
Background /Problem
Guidewire software is the provider of the products or software to Casualty and property
insurer. The company is located in Foster City, California, it provides core back-end software for
casualty and property insurance Carriers mostly in the US and global. The main goal of
Guidewire application is to add value to the customers of the company, specifically in the fast-
paced Digital and Data engagement area, allowing the customer of the company to deploy and
my variable insight of data which are available for use in the company (Shari, Alderliesten, van
den Dobbelsteen and Dankelman 2018). The main problem that most of the insurance sector is
facing today includes the following the changing preferences of the consumer, stiff competition,
increasing digital confluence and following Federal rules and regulations. Due to the many
problems that the insurance companies are facing, Guidewire a provider of different products to
Casualty and property insurers begins to provide the different comprehensive application to help
solve the problems. Examples of the application useful for supporting different insurance
operation include policy administration, underwriting, claims management and billing. The

insurance suite application is made up of shared platform component that includes casualty and
property lifecycle whose function is to change legacy system installed and developed on the
inside by the Carrier. This made most of the insurance Carrier across the global to implement
Guidewire because of the advantages that it offers to the company (Nair et al. 2018).
According to Gartner report, the insurance companies focus on the implementation of the
Policy Administration System (PAS) and Legacy modernization in order to allow for self-service
for all the policyholders and for the purpose of increasing customer service experience. Those
that provide insurance cover are also enhancing their knowledge towards rule-based,
configurable, commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) and package solution like building in-house
applications versus Guidewire InsuranceSuite (Shalev, Bezerra, Ray, Prabhu and Wilson 2016).
This help in accelerating time to market and reduce the cost of implementation. Depending on
products, geographies in scope, number of LOBs, Carries could easily take less time with the
implementation of the packaged (Weitzendorfer et al 2017).
Usually, software testing, PAS project constitute approximate of 30% of the entire budget
for the program and needs time and enough resources to ensure that best code is delivered.
Traditionally, the process of testing begins with test scenario design, test data preparation, and
test case creation—which are usually manual, resulting in substantial cost and time (Trivisonne,
Kerrien and Cotin 2017).
It is not usually uncommon that the costs associated with implementation (testing cost)
increases due to regulatory changes, changing business requirement, and improvement to
existing functionalities due to system limitations, additional downstream and upstream system
integrations. A traditional testing method is made up of the following challenges testing cost, by

not taking into consideration the number and length of the test cycles, regression cycles and
defect retests (Couture and Szewczyk 2018).
The adoption of lean principles and agile methodologies across different industries,
contemporary solution existing in the market and improvement in automation technologies, can
actually allow the standard framework to be developed to assist in testing most of the rules and
processes of the business (Sapontis et al. 2017).
Automation Framework for Guidewire
Integrated Design2Execution (ID2E) is an example of the automation framework
developed by Hexaware, which help in leveraging model-based testing (MBT) tool, for
automation of test design. ID2E seamlessly combines Execution automation suite with Model-
Based Testing, for the purpose of the end to end automation (Desyllas, Miozzo, and Miles 2017).
The process of automation start from case design than to script generation and then to execution
and lastly to reporting of tasks, iD2E is useful in automation of the most critical and complex
tasks and bring optimization and intelligence to testing.
Model-based Testing Approach for Guideline
MBT approach enables the automation of test case, by use of the models of the preferred
system behavior. Hexaware consists of the pre-developed functional models, particularly to
Guidewire suite of product, to produce test cases.
The model is developed with the support of structure diagrams and activity diagrams
represent the screen flow and the process flows of the requirement of the business. The test cases
created are then transferred to Selenium (automation test suite) where automation constituents
for Guidewire.

Solution
o There is the need for the entire organization to perform test across technology devices
and platforms, automating tests for a consistent and effective outcome is a necessary requirement
for a better performance of the business.
o The company should avoid using manual testing as it can be tedious and time-
consuming. Using automation is important as it can make the process faster, repetitive, testing
effort, bring the return on investment, save cost and consistent. Therefore, Consideration should
be based on the Test automation that increases Efficiency in Testing.
o Casualty and property insurance organizations need to take into consideration
implementation of current Extreme applications by transforming existing and old documents that
are recently being created through legacy applications or other Document.
o There should be the thorough analysis of tasks and workflows done by users to ensure
that it is efficient and effective in the work process.
o There should be the daily discussion in order to identify daily development and
resolve and identify any challenges.
o The insurance sectors should, therefore, avoid the application of the manual process
and replace it with the current automation process as it is faster and important in solving all the
limitation of the manual process.
o The management should ensure that the employees and all the members of the
organization clearly understand the model and the automation process in order to solve the
mistakes and errors caused by the workers.
Conclusion

Rate Validation Testing on Guidewire Using Selenium 1
Guidewire has recently become significant to operation at many insurance companies.
And for that reason upgrades should not be regarded a low-value task, but rather a significant
event in maintaining the environment of a high-performance operation in billing, policy
administration, and claims. This approach to planning and other different phases of upgrade can
help increase the company to pay dividends and get higher growth in the return on investment.
The most effective kind of rating mostly being used by the insurance companies is the Bridge
insurance rating engine. It is both easy use and sophisticated. The users of business can easily
and cost-effective update, modify and create their insurance rate drivers, rate and rating rules.
Application of test automation assists in accelerating regression test effort, and permits
constantly unattended execution. Selenium automation is a tool used for validation of difficult
business processes. It is advisable for the company to avoid the use of manual testing process
and concentrate on the use of automation process as it offer significant benefits to the users.
