The purpose of the study is to understand the leadership skills that I possess and the
shortcomings that still exist in my leadership skills. A leadership matrix has been provided for
me to assess and see the qualities that I possess and the qualities that are lacking in me.
Leadership is the quality in an individual to guide and lead their subordinates towards the right
direction in order to achieve the team goals. Leadership is the ability in an individual to help its
subordinates overcome the hurdles that they face in attaining both their individual and team goals
(Antonakis & Day, 2017). I have also gathered certain qualities as a leader that will be discussed
in the essay and there are some prevalent loopholes in my character that are restricting me in
attaining my goals. Thus, the main aim of the essay is to understand the qualities that I possess
and the loopholes that has to be mended.
I do possess the analytical quality in me that helps me in taking good and organized
decisions. The opinions that my fellow mates or the subordinates hold which at times leads to
arguments and conflicts. Thus the analytical capability in me helps their perspective and me to
analyze the situation and the opinions that they hold and after analyzing I give the judgments
which helps in overcoming the conflicts within the team. This helps in maintaining relations
between the employees or the subordinates. The creative and innovative aspect is also a good
quality in me as I help my fellow mates with alternative ideas in the areas that they face
problems they ideas and the innovative strategies that I provide helps them in overcoming the
problem areas and serve the purpose of the requirements. I am under skilled in terms of
optimism any challenge that turns to be a big issue makes me feel anxious and I take decisions in
anxiety, which later proves to be a big mistake. Thus, the positivity aspect is severely lacking in
me, my co-workers also gets demotivated at times when they see lack of confidence in me.
However, I am supportive and collaborative with my fellow mates or my subordinates I tend to

hear their grievances and the opinions that they have for the betterment of the team and try in
implementing those ideas in order to make the team achieve its aims. Whenever my subordinates
feel demotivated I tend to encourage them so that they can attain their individual goals. I also
tend to make my subordinates understand the requirement of attaining the goals and encourage
them thoroughly to achieve them. I am under skilled in terms of being flexible, as I cannot adopt
to the new challenges that are being raised in front of me. I cannot adapt to the new changes that
are being installed in the company as I face difficulties in being accustomed to that and I also
tend to face issues in identifying the challenges or the task that are assigned. This leads me to
drastic downfalls and thus this lack of prioritizing the tasks and the challenges makes the
authority of the company dissatisfied with my work. I am also not at all resilient, as I do not
have a wide idea about the strategies that can help me overcome the problems and the obstacles
that I face in my professional life and I do not understand the areas that will help me in
developing my skills and potentials. The quality of being member focused is very much instilled
in me as I try in helping my subordinates attain their individual goal. I also try to understand the
problem areas that are the subordinates are experiencing and suggest those methods or
resolutions that can help them overcome those issues. I am honest, ethical and inclusive I never
go against my company’s ethics and my team’s ethics as violating the ethical ground is a
punishable act and thus performing such illegal activities can make the team lose its visions and
their aims.
The leadership skill that I need to develop in order to achieve my team goals and
individual development is to be positive during facing or experiencing any challenge in my
professional career. Positive attitude is very essential for the team as it helps in motivating the
teammates and the subordinates in order to help them in achieving the goals. A leader must

always have positive and confident approach towards the risks and the challenges thrown at
him/her. Similarly, it is very important for me to develop the skills of being a flexible leader as
that is very important for me to adapt to the changes that are being installed in the company this
will not only help in adapting to the innovation in a rapid pace but also help my team achieve the
goals. Flexibility is an aspect that will help any leader to adopt to the rapid changing social and
economic environment; this also helps the leaders in modifying their approach towards the
challenges or uncertain situations. It also helps the leader to be versatile and the faith of the
subordinate on the leader increases as they feel that the leader will help them in any
unpredictable situation. The quality of being resilient is very important in any leader as this
quality helps the leader in being an influencer for its subordinates and helping in guiding through
the challenges (Grover, 2014). The leaders with this quality helps the employees in staying
motivated even if there is a probability of huge threat coming their way. Thus, it is equally
important for me to instill a quality s that I can guide my teammates or subordinates through
correct direction and this will also help me in my self-development. They help in developing
relationships and positive outcomes of the team. This quality also helps in making the leader risk
bearing and develop the skills of the employees. Thus, the skills that I lack in my personality
must be instilled so that they can help me in prospering the forthcoming days.
The leadership skills that I possess are also equally important for me and develop my
skills as well. The skill of being a good analytical leader has helped me in understanding the
opinions and the grievances of the employees or the subordinates. An analytical leader always
understands the situation and takes the decision that will be helpful at that point of time. An
analytical leader helps in reducing or solving conflicts between the fellow subordinates. The
judgments that the leader provides favor the situation and not any individual, an analytical leader

will always provide unbiased decisions. Another quality that I possess is being creative and
innovative this quality helps me in suggesting the subordinates’ good and strategic ideas for them
to eradicate the issues that they are facing. This quality also help the leader in formulating
innovative strategies to eradicate problems in the forthcoming days. Supportive and collaborative
is another quality that I possess and this quality make me more emotionally connected with the
subordinates. This quality in a leader helps him/her to understand the problem areas of the
employees and assist them in overcoming those hurdles (McCleskey, 2014). This leadership skill
helps in understanding the grievances and the opinions that they have for the betterment of the
team and try in implementing those ideas in order to make the team achieve its aims. I am
member focused which is another quality in me thus; every leader must have concern for its
teammates or the subordinates and look into their grievances and value their opinions at the same
time. This type of leadership skill helps the leader to understand the employees or the
subordinates better and helping the subordinates attain their individual goal. I also possess the
quality of honesty, inclusive and ethical I know to perform my duties in all legal and ethical
terns. I do not intend to violate the laws or the protocols of my team or my company as violating
the legal aspects can lead me to severe downfall both for my individual image and the team’s
aims will not be attained (Nanjundeswaraswamy & Swamy, 2014).
The leadership skills that I do not possess are having positivity in me. The positive
attitude is severely lacking in me for which at times the teammates or the subordinates tend to be
demotivated as I tend to get anxious to see any big threat or challenge and cannot strategize
myself in eradicating that quickly. I do not possess the quality of being resilient due to which I
cannot influence my subordinates that effectively. The quality of being flexible and adapting all

the innovations or the amendments planted in the company is still not instilled thus I have to
work hard in attaining all these qualities in me.
The leadership style that is authoritative will impact the future community career as the
employees might not discuss their issues with me as the barrier between me and them will
gradually develop as in authoritative leadership style the leader does not consider the opinions of
the employees thus this can be a hurdle in a the near future.
Thus, the essay can be concluded that the I need to instill good leadership skills in me
such as positivity, resilience, and flexibility to make myself a successful leader. These skills will
help me in bridging the loophole that still exist in my personality. The leadership skills that I
possess are briefly explained in the content of the essay. The advantage that the community
sector will have due to the leadership skill that I possess also have been stated in the essay.
