AI Summary
This report focuses on Self-Correcting Instruction Materials (SCMs), which provide students with immediate feedback and allow them to practice skills independently. The report highlights the importance of SCMs, particularly for reinforcing concepts and providing opportunities for self-assessment. The project involves designing an SCM kit for Grade 2 students, targeting multiplication skills. The chosen kit is Magnet Math Manipulatives, a colorful and engaging puzzle-based activity. The kit is designed to be user-friendly, with clear instructions and visual aids, to support young learners in practicing and evaluating their understanding of multiplication. The report details the kit's design, materials, and benefits, emphasizing its role in promoting independent learning and providing teachers with a tool to monitor student progress. The kit is designed to be reusable, offering multiple practice opportunities and a record for the teacher to assess student performance.

Introduction
According to Benjamin (2014), Self-Correcting Instruction Materials (SCMs) is
referred to as those materials that provides students with the accurate and correct answers.
These materials help the students to practise the acquired skill and get feedback from the
teacher. The purpose of this report to understand the importance of the SCM and design a kit
for the students. The paper will firstly highlight the importance of SCM and identify the
reason it is used by the educators in their learning process. It will then describe the SCM
choice and kit chosen for the students.
Self-Correcting Instruction Materials
Definition
The SCMs can also be stated as the teaching materials utilised by the students for their own
review of the previously learned concepts (Teaching & Learning Strategies, Week 3 2020).
These materials are helpful to check the accuracy of the responses for helping the students to
move forward in their mainstream classes. The SCMs tools provided to the students will help
them to acquire an immediate feedback revealing the accuracy of the completed task (Prat &
Urbanowski, 2016).
SCM used by an Educator
An educator can use the SCMs tool in their curriculum to review the knowledge
acquired by the students after their completion of the unit (Teaching & Learning Strategies,
Week 4, 2020).. These materials might also help the students right before their test to
understand exactly where they stand. The SCMs technique can also be applied by the
educator after a long break to revisit the earlier materials taught. This strategy is so flexible
that it could be used by the teacher as a quiet study tool or even as a casual leave task.

SCM choices
The chosen grade for the SCM is Grade 2 level and the subject which will be targeted
is mathematics. Mathematics is a vast subject therefore the specific skill that will be focused
on is the area of multiplication. These specific areas and grades are chosen because grade 2
level is the base level in which all the basic information is explained to the students. Selecting
mathematics and focusing on multiplication is because every individual must possess this
skill as it is required in daily activities of one’s life. Therefore, not having a strong core might
impact their understanding later.
Design of the SCM Kit
The SCM kit designed for the Grade 2 level student which will help them to evaluate
their own understanding is Magnet Math Manipulatives that will stick answers and questions
together. One part of the puzzle will contain multiplication questions and the other part will
consist of the answers. It will be colourful and attractive for the engaging the student’s
attention. The critical elements considered for creating this Self-Correcting Instruction
Materials kit was the age of the students and their lack of practice and knowledge. The
students being so young require easy, attractive as well as a knowledgeable way of learning
and assessing their own knowledge. Hence, the puzzle will make them want to learn and
provide the appropriate amount of skill for the solution. This material also provides an easy to
follow direction as it has only two pieces as well as pictures for assisting the students as they
might have difficulty in reading long and complex words.

The chosen Magnet Math Manipulatives as a SCM kit is not expensive and can be
created by any educators with just colourful pieces of paper, some cardboards, pens to write
the number in the paper and some magnets which will be stuck as the one sides of each paper.
The magnets are used for the students to have fun while studying so that the process of
learning does not feel monotonous. This also provides them with opportunities for multiple
practice. This kit is created keeping in mind the students will perform this task independently.
Therefore, they must not have any problem while doing this activity and practicing their
acquired knowledge from the teachers. The kit is totally risk free and has no element that will
harm the student.
The solving of the answers will be recorded by the teacher for them to
evaluate the performance of the students. Even though the recorded performance is

not graded it helps the teacher to understand the growth of the students and keep
record of the changing abilities.
Conclusion
The report explains the benefits of the Self-Correcting Instruction Materials and helps
us to understand the importance of it as a learning material. It also provides an SCM kit
designed for grade 2 students that will help them in their mathematics. Hence, to conclude the
SCM kit designed will be quire beneficial for the student as this will provide them a way to
practise the skill multiple times and receive feedback from the teachers.
