Executive summary
The aim of this essay is to discuss the personal development techniques outlined in the
article Achieving Academic Excellence: A Self-Regulatory Perspective by Zimmerman. This
article mainly focused on the growth of self-regulation process within the individuals so that they
can align their process towards the perfect achievement of the goals. The key self-regulatory
techniques are the most effective tools for self-development which are obviously designed by the
experts so that the performance of the individuals have visible improvement. This essay has
pointed out some of the techniques used in mitigating problems in the agile company where the
problems of staff retention continued due to leadership problem. This is the reason why self-
reflection on the improvement process and readings to enhance or practice skills have been
detailed. This essay concludes with a career development plan which details the areas one need
to focus on weaknesses so that those do not affect the efficiency of a leader. There are some
actions which need to be executed to overcome issues like inability to self-evaluation, time
management and social skills. This reflection has increased knowledge about the business and
activities of the firm in one hand and maintained self-regulatory perspectives.

Every origination in this world face some type of problems either directly or indirectly
but all the problems ultimately affect the health of the organization harming the profit scenario.
In order to mitigate all the problems in an agile organization, I had to play an important part so
that the solution of these problems could be easily identified and those can be transformed into
the strength of the organization, the moan problem of that particular organization was completely
related to leadership for which it was suffering from continues employee turnover and reduced
production (Dinh et al. 2014). In this regard, the skills to manage the human resource of the
company was not easy. For this reason, I followed some of the necessary paths that the leaders of
the organization need to follow.
As pointed out by Zimmerman (2002), the innate talent and performance of the people
gets doubled by the use of self-regulatory process for systemizing learning. The role of deliberate
practice in the training activities increases specific aspects of the performance of the individuals
as they practice those skills repetitively as well as successive refinement. Through these practices
I have found that the individuals gain more insight about the strengths and monitor their
performance based on which they can continue self-improvement (Ehrhart 2015). The feedback
method on the training process designed by the mentors has helped me to develop several classic
self-regulatory processes. This include goal directed attention so that I do not go further from the
objectives or the responsibilities I need to carry on to set the agile condition of the firm. The
systematic reliance on the feedback, identified by Zimmerman (2002) to be important, has
helped me to follow effective methods of strategizing task based on their importance. This has
helped me to refers to all the available information about the business and reasons of the
employee turnover in detail and implement skills of mine to lay strategies effectively.

Zimmerman (2002) in his journal article has identified the key self-regulatory techniques
where he has pointed out some very important and effective tool for self-development. The
issues that resulted the company to become agile, needed to be solved entirely as well as from
roots. In this regard, I have involved in self-instruction which helped mem to remain focused on
all the way to my goal. The position I was in, I needed a motivational training or guidance so that
I do not break down due to psychological stress. In this regard, the techniques of self-instruction
helped me to keep myself motivated throughout the journey (Favaro 2013). It reduced anxiety in
me and guided me to keep focused on the minute problems of the organization and find the
solution without much wastage of time and effort.
The self-monitoring technique has helped me to track my own performance within a time
limit. I have learnt a lot from this problematic situation which gave a real-life experience how to
manage an emergency situation (Kennedy and Chen 2015). I have learnt a lot from this
experience and used all of these to find out the solutions of these problems. However, there are
some aspects in me which I still need to work on otherwise these can become my weaknesses
and affect my efficiency as a leader. In order to mitigate this, I need to develop a career
development plan so that I can increase my personal skills and insight based on the reflection and
the readings.
