INTRODUCTION
Leadership style defined as a characteristic of leader behaviour which is regarding
directing, guiding, motivating along with managing of people within organisation. This allows to
learn many things and helps to identify the area of development which needs to improved. There
is also need to focus on the delivery of better and effective improvement of skills which have
high importance for the professional development. For this, there is need for the development
plan which can help to develop transformational leadership within practice. In this report, the
reflection and biography which is based on the registered nurse and clinical nurse. There are
many areas where it is needed for the development which can allows to focus and needs to
improve. This can help for the professional development to achieve certain goal (Bryant, (2021)).
Biography/Self-Assessment
I am a registered nurse and clinical nurse working in the healthcare department in BUPA
Tugun as a full-time nursing staff. I have the role to lead a team of fabulous care staff with
exceptional clinical skills for delivering personalised and excellent care to foster nurturing
environment. I have various work experience in many organisation as a nursing staff for the
supernumerary support role within McKenzie Aged Care Group Pty Ltd, McKenzie Aged Care
as the regional project as deployment team for about six months. I have also worked in Southport
Lodge, Labrador as the role of Registered Nurse Division 2 and Business management and in
many other organisations which has helped me a lot to learn and develop many skills. I have
worked in various organisation where I have got experience and learned to deal with many
situations effectively. I have also learned many skills which has helped me to delivery my
services with better effect (Cao, (2020)).
There is a self-awareness which allows to focus on many skills which can help to get
better and effective service provider. As a team leader there is need to focus on the delivery of
better and effective services. In this, there is understanding of the strength, motivation, values
and occupational interests. Self-Awareness, aspirations, opportunities and results are the (SOAR)
framework which can help to explore the concepts for conducting self-assessment tools. I have
identified that I have many skills which can allow me to work effectively. Whereas, there is need
to improve some skills which should have higher impact on the delivery of services. I have
different skills and through this, I have learned and performed many activities within healthcare.

With the self-improvement within different area I will have the access to represent myself
effectively and can have better response in future. This will allow me to get better outcomes in
future (Choi, (2021)).

Self-development plan refers to taking steps to improve yourself. There is need to learn
many things which can have high impact on the personal development which can have also
impact on the professional development (Vieira, (2020). There is need to improve in the area of
work which can allows to focus on the area of development that can allow to improve
professionally. Self-development allows to focus on the delivery of better and effective
leadership where inspiring to team members allowed to focus on the delivery of better and
effectively achieving the organisational vision. There is need to focus on the transformational
leadership which can allow to manage health care team effectively. There is need to focus on the
behaviour which can allow to focus on the leadership approach that can cause change in
individual and social system. This leadership is highly effective to manage the healthcare team.
This helps to achieve the emotional and lifelong learning which helps to develop communication
with collaborative skills. This can help to inspiring, motivating and encouraging team members
to perform effectively in order to deliver better care and services. As a leader of the healthcare
team, there is need to improve the leadership skills which can improve by including various
skills like communication, conflict management, collaboration and decision making skills and
time management (Edwards, (2018)).
There are number of responsibilities on nursing leader in order to provide effective, safe
nursing care in their clinical practices. A nursing assessment is considered as the first step of the
nursing process. It is known to expand the psychological, physical as well as social aspects of
patient's life. In healthcare, registered nurses are used to gather data about a patient's status as
this information’s are used to construct a nursing plan of aid for the patient (Bryant & Yoder
(2021)). In order to maintain such records of patients and also to maintain a working
environment among other nurses, nursing leader will require some essential qualities as well as
skills. The important qualities for nursing leader are as mentioned below:
communication skills: According to a nursing leader, communication skills are very
crucial for a leader as well as other nursing staff. By using these skills, it allows others members
to share what they have and also what they are expecting from others. If communication skills

are good not in healthcare but in every organization, it helps to enhance their understandings and
their beliefs among people who inspire others to follow the values as well as principles. It also
makes clear connections between staff members (Kalanlar (2018)). From communicating
between staff to keeping executives up to date on routine operations. A nursing leader must be
able to effectively communicate with their staff also (FISHER, (2019)).
Decision making: It is an effective leadership quality does every leader have. In context
with healthcare, it is quite important for nursing leaders to make decisions about policies,
maintenance of records on daily basis, daily follow-ups and many more. As the registered nurses
and other junior nurses look up to the nursing leaders for daily advices and decision making. As
a leader, there is need to concentrate on the requirements of their staff and also must build the
leadership role in the nursing workplace. It is because while making decisions, it will enhance
their performance in clinical practice and it will make an influence on patients’ lives as well as
experience with healthcare (Tang, (2019)).
Conflict management skills: In nursing leadership, managing conflicts is an important
skill for a nursing leader in healthcare. No healthcare is free from arguments, but its nursing
leader's responsibility to solve their problems effectively. As conflict understanding makes the
leader to control it more effectively and will give a path to carry out the positive outcomes. This
leadership quality should be gained by nursing leader so as to grow healthy relationships among
others as well as with organization which leads to effective productivity (FISHER, (2019)).
Collaborating skills: In leadership, collaboration as a skill needs all the registered nurses
to work with their full potential on the sake of patients and contributions to the work as well. It is
a responsibility of every staff member for their roles in creating healthy surrounding. In order to
make collaboration as productive, nursing staff and nursing leader should feel comfortable about
discussing their problems. Moreover, nursing leaders should keep aside any negative thoughts
about other staff nurses or members in respect to concentrate on well-being of their patient’s care
(Vieira & Fonseca (2020)).
