INTRODUCTION
Self development or personal development includes all the activities which assist in
regulating the identity, potentials, talents and overall quality of life for attaining the desired
aspirations and dreams (Pedler, Burgoyne and Boydell, 2013). For developing one's self
development many steps has to be implemented which aids in learning new and innovative skills
that eventually helps in coping up with the bad circumstances of life. The state of being
responsible is another factors which makes an individual accountable and answerable for their
own doings and task. The report will focus on illustrating effective communication skills which
can be employed in professional and academic contexts in making the students more efficient.
The report will further cover how various tools can be employed in making the students more
effective.
Why being an effective student is important?
Effective students can be describe as the students that is able to meet with the expectation
of teachers and parents by gaining set goal. It is very important to become an effective
students as this helps in scoring good grade in exam which lead to successful completion
of academic courses (Thang and Fassin, 2017). Effective student is able to develop new
skills faster as well as has appropriate knowledge about the topic. This is very helpful in
future career of the student and getting better job placements.
How would you judge whether your studying has been effective or not?
There are different ways through which effectiveness of student can be judged. I
consider myself as an effective student has I have appropriate knowledge and
understanding about the topic in is taught by teacher (Krettenauer, 2013). By effective
learning potential I am able to develop skills and capabilities that is helpful for my future
growth and development. Effectiveness of a student can not only be measured by their
academic knowledge and marks in exam. Overall knowledge and understanding is very
important in order to become an effective student.
What are the attributes of effective students?
There are different attributes of effective student which is very helpful in attaining set
goals and getting better grade in academic studies. The major attributes that is essential are

listening skills, time management skills as well as notes taking skills. All of these skills play
crucial role in overall performance of students as well as successful completion of academic
course. These skills are very supportive in managing the time for studying accurately and
appropriately.
Different attributes of effective students?
There are different attributes of a student that is very supportive in becoming effective
students. The major skills are notes taking skills, listening skills and time management skill. All
of these skills are mention below in detail.
Time management skill – This skill can be describe as the capability of a person to
effective and correctly manage the time (Lazarus and Ferris, 2016). so that all activities can be
completed with in appropriate time. It is very important for an student to have time management
skills so that they can give appropriate time to all topic of study.
Notes taking skills – This skill refer as the potential of a student to have right and
accurate notes so that they can study correct content. Notes are very important to summarizing
all important topics that is crucial for achieving good marks. This is an important skills to take
right and correct notes that is required.
Listening skills – It is crucial for an student to actively listen in order to understand the
topic clearly. Listening is one of the basic skills that needs to be with in the student as this is in
essential for effective communication also.
Difference between learner and student focusing on passing assessment.
There are different types of students and each student have their own motive. There is
huge difference between all those students who are studying only for getting pass in assignment
or gaining certificate. Leaning capacity of these students are for very short period of time and
they are not focusing on future career (Frizen, 2014). Where as there are some students that is
focusing on enhancing their knowledge as well as transferring skills. This type of students are
completely focusing on personal growth and development as well as focus on growth and
development of future. Learning capacity of this learner is very long as they understand the
concept very clearly and appropriately.

Tools that help student to become effective learner.
There are different tools that support in becoming an effective learner. Some of the major
tools are PDP and SWOT analysis. Both of these are very effective tool in which SWOT analysis
stands for strength, weakness, opportunity and threat. Where as PDP refer as the personal
development plan (Coeckelbergh, 2016). Both of these are effective tool that help in identifying
the areas which is individual strength and weakness as well as all those area in which
improvement is required. SWOT analysis is an effective tool in order to determine the external
opportunity and threat that could be faced by individual.
CONCLUSION
From the above presentation it can be concluded that that there are different aspects helps
student to become an effective and efficient learn. It is very important for a students to become
as effective students as this will help in gaining good grade as well as help in achieving future
goal also. There are many attributes such as time management, active listening skills and so on
which is very helpful in enhancing knowledge as well as accomplishing desired targets also.
There are different between a student that is focusing on getting certificate or passing grades
only and s students that is a learn which is focusing on transforming their skills. Apart from this
different tools and techniques has been analysed such as SWOT analysis and PDP that support in
becoming effective learner.
