Section 3 - Introduction
Leadership is considered to be the ability of the management of the company in order
to set the goals and further achieve them as well. The main aim of the leaders is thereby
based on the ways by which the organization is able to outperform the high levels of
competition and also achieve the challenging goals. The qualitative aspects of the
organization and the quantitative aspects are also an important part of the leadership based
process. Leadership is able to provide an effective direction to the company (Antonakis &
Day, 2017). The employees are able to recognise the direction which is helpful for them to
reach a destination. Effective leadership based style is related to a strong character. The
leaders are able to exhibit different characteristics like, honesty, trustworthiness, integrity and
ethics. The leaders are able to communicate with the employees in an effective manner in
order to achieve the goals (Bowerman & Van Wart, 2014).
The report is based on the ways by which a leader is able to operate in the industry.
The characteristics which are a part of the good leadership based style will be analysed in the
report. The analysis in the report is based on the critical and reflexive leadership
characteristics. The strengths and the weaknesses of the leadership style will be analysed ion
the report.
Section 4 - Essential characteristics of a good leader
As discussed by Bolman and Deal (2017), the qualities of a good leader are based on
the ways by which the two major dimensions which are able to affect the employees which
include, directive style and supportive style. The effective leaders have the major ability of
changing their style in order to meet the changing needs of people. The ten major qualities of
a good leader are as follows,

Appreciative – A leader who is wise in nature is able to value the team and the
employees. High levels of success are gained by the leaders with the help of
his followers.
Confident – The confidence and trust based levels are considered to be an
important indicator for the satisfaction of the employees.
Compassionate – The level of compassion is considered to be a major strength
of a good leader. The leaders are able to use compassion in order to perceive
needs of the followers and further implement effective courses of action
(Gmelch & Buller, 2015).
Courageous – The courageous leader is always prepared to take high levels of
risks as compared to the others.
Diligent The leaders are able to persevere in courage, conviction,
compassion, creativity and compassion.
Fair – The good leaders are able to show high levels fairness and they do not
have any favourites in the team (Holten & Brenner, 2015).
Flexible – A good leader is highly flexible in nature and are able to adapt to
the style with respect to the situation.
Honest – The wise leaders are not afraid to communicate the truth to the
followers. The honesty levels are based on the truthfulness.
Impartial – The good leaders are also impartial in nature and they are able to
recognise the biases.
Responsive – Good leaders are responsive in nature and understand the needs
of the consumers (Kouzes & Posner, 2016).

Section 5 - An analysis of my own leadership based strengths and weaknesses
The leadership style which is followed by me within the organization is based on
some major strengths and weaknesses. The proper analysis of my leadership style will be
helpful in determining the strengths and weaknesses. The strengths of my leadership style are
as follows,
Communication skills The communication skills which have been
developed by me with the followers are important part of strengths of my
leadership based style. The goals and vision of the company are
communicated effectively to the followers by me in order to improve the
position of the organization.
Social skills – The social skills which I have developed in the organization are
also highly effective for the ways by which I am able to communicate with
the strangers. My work performance is also based on the effective levels of
social skills which I have developed during my work process in the
organization (Lee, 2016).
Listening skills – I have been able to develop high levels of listening skills
which have been able to affect the ways by which I understand the needs of
the organization and the employees. The skills which I have developed to
listen to others in the organization is also an important factor which has been
helpful in developing my strengths.
Teamwork The leader needs to develop effective teams within the
organization. I have also been able to form teams which have the same vision
and goals.
Determination – I have always been highly determined in nature based on the
ways by which the goals need to be achieved (Northouse, 2017).

My weaknesses as a leader within the organization are as follows,
A major weakness which has been depicted within my leadership style is the
arrogance which is a part of my character. This has sometimes affected my
communication with the employees in a negative manner.
Sometimes I have tried to impress the others within the organization with the
help of my leadership. This has caused a major effect on the ways by which I
influence the leaders (Roe, 2017).
I have been autocratic in leading the followers in some situations. This has
been able to affect the work based process of the employees. The results of
the work process have been quite negative due to autocratic style of
leadership.
I have also failed in some parts of my work process to provide effective
results based on the deadline which is provided.
I had high levels of expectations from some of the employees who have
performing in a low manner. This has resulted to many negative results for
different projects and tasks which have been provided to me.
Emotional intelligence is an important factor which I lack in various
situations which have influenced the levels of operations within the
organization (Schedlitzki & Edwards, 2017).
Section 6 - A plan to develop the leadership skills
A personal leadership plan is considered to be a roadmap which is based on the
success of the leaders in the organization. The plan is based on the ways by which
professional people are able to develop a plan to the future goals. The plans are able to
outline various short term as well as long term goals of the organization. The timeline of the

plan is based on one year to ten years. Many different elements are an important part of the
personal leadership development based plan of the organization. The different strengths and
weaknesses of the leaders are an important part of the personal leadership development plan.
My plan in order to develop the leadership skills for achievement of future goals is defined as
follows,
I work as a team leader in a retail organization of Australia named Woolworths. I am
a part of the Marketing based team of the organization. I have been able to lead the team in an
effective manner and achieve the goals which have been provided by the top management of
the company. The most important part of my work process is ways by which I have managed
the team and improved the levels of communication. The strengths of my leadership style
which have been discussed earlier have been effective for my team to achieve the goals of the
organization. On the other hand, the weaknesses of my leadership style have affected the
ways by which my team has been able to work in Woolworths.
I however aim at improving my leadership style with the help of different strengths
and further reduce the levels of weaknesses as well. I have to improve my leadership style in
order to improve my position within the organization. I plan to improve my position to high
levels within the organization ten years from now. The leadership based style which I follow
is an important part of the improvement which I aim to achieve in my organization. I aim at
reaching the position of General Manager within my organization in ten years. The
achievement of this position is considered to be the most important factor of the leadership
style which has been developed by me.
The main parts of my leadership style which have proved to be weaknesses need to be
improved so that I am able to reach my goal. The strengths of my leadership style will be
used by me in order to reach the position which I have aimed. The communication with the

During the process of my enhancement from the position in which I operate at present
to the position which I aim to reach I have to go through many other positions in the
organization. I can improve my position from team manager to Head of the Marketing
Department. The next position which I can achieve is the Senior Manager of the company.
The last enhancement can lead to becoming the General Manager of Woolworths within a
time period of tem years. The process of improvement of my job process will be based on the
leadership activities which I show in different organizational processes. The strengths of my
leadership style will be used by me in an effective manner in order to improve my position
within the organization. My strengths will be able to play the most important role in order to
help me in the achievement of the goals.
The leadership based style which has been followed by me in Woolworths will be
important for me achieve my goals. I can also play a key role in the ways by which my
leadership style is able to influence the followers. The influence which I can have on the
followers and the longevity of the influence is also important. The legacy which I plan to
leave to the world based on my leadership style is based on the ways by which I was able to
inspire the followers. The vision which I have developed within the organization has been
shared with the followers and this has been helpful in the achievement of goals which have

been set by the management. The goals can thereby be achieved by the followers in order to
increase revenues of the company.
Conclusion
The report can be concluded by stating that leadership and the style of leaders is able
to affect the operations and revenues of the organization as well. The most important part of
the leadership style of leaders is based on the effectiveness of the organizations. The self-
analysis of leadership has been able to depict the ways by which leaders are able to influence
the employees or the followers. The characteristics which are depicted by the good leaders
are important for the followers and the organizational processes as well. The analysis of my
personal leadership based strengths has been able to depict that I will require a certain
amount of time in order to reach the goals. I have aimed to reach a position in the
organization which is also based on the strengths and the weaknesses of my leadership. The
leadership based style which has been shown by me is thereby highly important for the
development of my position and development of the organization as a whole.
