INTRODUCTION
A persons self concept is their understanding of who they are and what makes them
unique. This understanding includes physical self, social, competent and psychological self.
Understanding self-skills helps to understand strengths and weakness in performing duties.
Everyone in an organisation possess different skills and to perform each activity at its best. it is
very necessary to be aware about skills that is possessed by each working person. Skills helps
individual to select area in which one should go ahead and make career (Salvatore and et. al.,
2012). Understanding needs of others is equally important as this helps management team to
allocate different tasks to workers according to their skills to perform task. In this project a detail
discussion on skills such as Focus and Attention, Assertiveness, Public Speaking and Team
working will be done. A personal development plan that helps to analyse self-skills will be
prepared in this report.
MAIN BODY

Ability that helps to perform a task that helps to attain desired results within specified time
with maximum productivity is termed as skills. This helps in performing each and every task in
the most productive manner with minimum time. People need a broad range of skills to
contribute towards personal development and also for modern economy. It is seen that in Morden
and competitive world it is not sufficient to only be good with one skill. Qualities that are
required to be more competitive and stand out are Public speaking,Assertiveness, Team
working , Focus and attention.
Core skills:
Focus and Attention: Whenever I see myself working in a huge organisation one of the
basic skill that needs to be developed is focus and attention. Focus is present for each task to
final goal that needs to be achieved in long run. When brain is able to concentrate and have
attention on target to attain set object then it is termed as focused mind. Being focused in
performing work will help me to make it possible for quick and effective results.
Assertiveness: Assertiveness is a skill that makes a person being able to stand up for own
rights and for what is not right as per law. This stops persons from accepting wrong and being

Public Speaking-: Public speaking is a skill that helps to communicate information to
others. It is done before large audience like in work place an idea or information that needs to be
shared with whole organisation. Public speaking is an art to represent my idea to public at large
and influencing them with my idea. Transfer of meaningful information that helps to inform,
influence others is done through effective public speaking.
Team Working: Group of persons in an organisation puts collective efforts to achieve a
common objective with most effective and efficient manner then it is termed as team working. A
team is formed with individuals who are competent and expert in various activities. These all
individuals come together to perform a task that helps to achieve common objective of the
organisation. Having quality of performing in a team will help me to increase my communication
skills, understanding others and being able to influence others by work.
Importance of core skills:

present with me while I am working with an organisation. And if I am not focused at my work
then definitely I cannot produce quality work that is necessary to be successful. At learning stage
paying attention to each work to achieve goals. It is important to pay attention at right time on
right things which helps them to develop more skills. Focus and Attention skill is selected
because it provides aim towards which I needs to work hard to attain that aim. Constructivism
theory helps to understand importance of being focused towards goals. Constructivism means
willing to follow a certain path that is based on own personal experience and internal knowledge.
Focus is required to take each decision whether to select a company, to be specialised in specific
field, to learn new technology or to set new goals to be achieved.
Assertiveness: To be assertive is important because this helps to make decisions that are
right for organisation as a whole. Being a person who only accepts right decisions will lead to
make honest communication to each person in the organisation. Quality like being a good
listener, keep calm in difficult situations and develop an attitude of solving problems (Todorov,
Fiske, and Prentice, 2011). Being assertive helps to boost confidence and increase surety without
getting aggressive. Assertiveness is required while communicating ideas to management as this

Focus and Attention: Currently I am focused is to have my focus in what I needs to
achieve in future and also my every step brings me near to my object. This focused skill is
assessed as my aim to be in finance industry is certain and I am continuously working towards it.
Assertiveness: Assertiveness is present at a certain level in me as I do not get agree to
some decision because it is taken by experienced person. Despite of every time I go for facts that
makes statement true. This quality of mines makes me assess that I am assertive.
Public Speaking: In current situation while I communicate any idea to others then they
are very much convened with my thoughts. This quality makes me assess that but putting some
more efforts to develop communication skills that improve my public speaking as well.
Team Working: Projects assigned are very well performed in a team and every time
when I perform in a team opinion of all team members are taken to develop team work. This
competence is assessed as quality of performing well in team is present.
Contradiction regarding skills:
Focus and Attention: As currently my aim is to enhance my skills and get a job in
financial department of a multinational company. For this I am regularly updated with
requirements that on employee require to work in finance department. Also I am working
towards my overall personality development and enhancing different skills that helps me to be
successful. To be focused for what I wanted to be and continuously working towards it helps me

in organisation is turned as strength as conflicts are resolved on time (Karabenick and Dembo,
2011). Weakness that I possess that needs to be improved is decision making capability and
written communication skills.
