1SELF REFLECTION ON PERSONAL ABILITY
There are certain instances in a person’s life which helps them realise their true potential.
Unless a person falls under circumstances which challenge his or her existence he or she cannot
ascertain his/her true potential. It is only under severe circumstances or tough situations that the
true capabilities of adjustment of a person can be understood.
I was not aware of my abilities in tackling new situations. In was only when I shifted
from my home country and came to the United States to study Medical Laboratory Technology
that I came to realize the challenges of studying in a foreign land and studying a topic which is
completely different from the subject I studied in my home country. The subject I studied in my
country five years ago is economics. The subject economics requires a student to have strong
financial understanding and analytical skills in order to understand the financial situations and
trends along with the predictions based on the basis of the past trends (Schank).
On the other hand, medical laboratory technology helps students who are interested in the
medical line understand the principles behind the diagnosis and treatment of diseases by
performing several tests. The medical assistants need the characteristics of being considerate and
understanding to deal with patients and work in medical offices (Yip and Côté). The individuals
also need to have proper amount of attention to detail. Thus the experience helped me grow as an
individual and hone my overall skills in both the subjects.
