1SELF-REFLECTION AND ART
Definition of Art
To define art in my perception is limiting the very ideology which it embodies and
represents. One of the main aspects which piqued my interest in the study of arts is the fact that
the limitations in the field of art are can be pointed hardly. However, the definition which I
follow in my perception of art is the form of work that shows the face of the society, which
blatantly tries to keep hidden. The different literature of history, which I discovered in my
attempt to gain the understanding and the discovery of the art movement of realism and cubism,
showed the nonconformity represented by the artists in those areas. The art for me is the work
which shows the side of life which the common eyes are unable to capture, which shows the line
of sight seen by the artist and is beyond the control of the society.
Strength and Weaknesses
The strength which I will be putting to use this semester is my inquisition to
understanding the works of artists which fascinated and attracted to me even though I stay
unclear of their complete meaning.
The weakness which I am looking to overcome this semester is my lack of knowledge
about the kind of society and culture the artists represented in their works such as Salvador Dali
and Pablo Picasso. The contemporary arts is the section where I struggle the most, and I look
forward to understanding the backstory behind the formation of these arts. The inclusion of
different forms of arts such as the films and videos, which are a comparatively recent addition to
the expression of art, is where I lack conviction.
