AI Summary
This project report, submitted for the ICTNWK401 module, details the planning, installation, and management of a server, specifically focusing on a DHCP server configuration. The project is divided into two assessments: the first involves planning and installing a DHCP server, including creating an installation plan, configuring the server, and connecting clients. The second assessment focuses on analyzing server performance through the development of maintenance and configuration documents, server performance reports, and disk structure reports. The project also covers identifying performance issues, peak usage periods, and undertaking server maintenance to optimize performance and rectify identified issues. The report provides detailed steps for server installation, client configuration, and performance evaluation, offering valuable insights into server administration and network management.

1. Assessment One (Project)
Main objective of this assessment is to plan and install a server for business client and
user needs to identify the client business requirements and then develop the detailed
installation plan for server. The installation and configuration of server will be developed.
1.1 Part A
In this part, we will plan and install a DHCP server for business client and develop the
detailed installation plan for DHCP server. The development of installation plan for DHCP
server includes the following aspects such as,
Deployment Environment Overview
The DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) is a client and server protocol
which is used to automatically provide the IP host with their IP address and other related
configuration information like default gateway and subnet mask. It is used to allow the host
to obtain the necessary TCP/IP configuration information from a DHCP server. The
Deployment overview of DHCP includes one DHCP server in an active directory domain.
This is configured to give the IP address to the DHCP clients on two different subnets and the
subnets are spitted by a router which is enabled the DHCP forwarding. The deployment
overview of DHCP server in an Active directory domain is illustrated as below (Blackstone
& Cooley, 1871).

Details of Interdependencies, Interoperability And Current System Capacity
o Interdependency - Basically, the DHCP server has interdependence or
interaction between the routers and switches which are used to assign the
IP address that corresponded domains.
o Interoperability - In DHCP server using the window server, The DHCP
identifier key allows for interoperability. The interoperability is used to
configure the active directory integrated zones for securing dynamic
updates with other DNS server implementations.
o Current system capacity - The current system capacity supports the NAP
function and it enforces the NAP policies. The DHCP scopes are NAP
enabled.
Details of Preferred Installation Option
To install the DHCP server on window server by using the below steps,
In window server 2012, open server manager ("How to configure DHCP
Server Scope in Windows Server 2012 R2", 2019).
Click the Add Roles and Features and click next.
After this, select the role based or feature based installation and click the
next button.
Select a server from the Server Pool and click the next button.
In Roles lists, check the DHCP Server role and click next to choose the
Add Features.

Details of Scale of Installation
To install the DHCP server on window server by using the below steps,
In window server 2012, open server manager ("How to configure DHCP
Server Scope in Windows Server 2012 R2", 2019).
Check the DHCP Server role and click next to choose the Add Features.
And click next to install the DHCP server on Window server 2012.
Data Mitigation
The mitigation of data in DHCP server requires following requirements such as,
o Datacenter server
o IP DHCP helper
o Secondary Domain Controller
o Global Catalog server
Backup requirements
The DHCP server requires the actions like backup in the event of software and
hardware failure in case of fail configuration change. By default, windows server
automatically backups the DHCP database and configuration every 60 minutes at below
location
%SystemRoot%System32\DHCP\backup
Recovery requirements
The DHCP server requires the actions like restore in the event of software and
hardware failure in case of fail configuration change. By default, windows server
automatically restores the DHCP database and configuration every 60 minutes at below
location
%SystemRoot%System32\DHCP\restore
Resource Requirements
o DHCP server Installation and configuration
o DHCP client Installation and configuration
Training
Once developed the installation plan, the user needs to explain the plan to the clients and
provide the training for the client about the developed plan. And, then obtain the client sign
off. In the end, user needs to ensure the plan meets the client requirements (Lynn, 2013).

The DHCP server is packaged as a role in window server 2012, which can be used to
install using the add roles and feature wizard in the server manage console on Window server
2012. Once installing of DHCP server is completed, user needs to configure the DHCP
service by creating a scope before it can serve the clients.
1.2 Part B
Identify and advise client of the required system down time
In this part, user needs to install and configure the DHCP server in the client premises.
Install the DHCP server
Installation and configuration of DHCP server on Window server 2012 by using the
below steps,
In window server, Open server manager to click add roles and features. It is illustrated as
below,
Click the next button before you begin wizard. It is shown below,
