Discussion
Service Employees International Union is our group of interest. It is a laborers union that
represents almost 2 million people in more than 100 different types of work in both Canada and
the United States of America. There are three organization groups’ workers. The first one is
health care which includes workers in hospitals, nursing, and home care. The second one is
public service which involves employees of both state and local governments. The last one is
property and home services which include food service, security officers and janitors. The
purpose of the organization is to provide a platform where non-professional workers can post
their problems and solved by their employers and also organize those workers who are not
organized into different work organizations (Walsh, 2015). The mission of the organization is to
ensure the growth of workers economically and socially without any difficulties (Peterson,
2016).
The headquarters of the organization are in Washington, D.C. The web address for the
organization is seiu.org. On the homepage of the website, you find the history of the
organization, its contacts, resources, its achievements among other things. However, the website
is written in English which is a problem for some of the workers who don’t speak English. Most
of the workers in this organization are an emigrant from other countries such as Mexico and
Colombia who speak Spanish. The website should include more than one language to make all
the members understand without difficulties.
Service Employees, International Union has four social media platforms which are
twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Youtube (Peterson, 2016). Their twitter page has more than
45000 followers which is a good number. There are new tweets and posts every day making it

active and therefore easy communication between members. Some of the comments are however
no response from the leadership. The organization should form a strong social media group of
workers who will be proactive every time to respond to the comments on the posts so that the
members commenting may fill involved in the group.
Service Employees International Union has a total of $70,537,500 budgeted for the year
2019 (DuRivage, (2016). The funds are used for projects such as the current ongoing Information
Technology modernization, improvement in services, donation to the Democratic Party
campaigns, savings for the organization among other things (Peterson, 2016). The organization is
spending a lot of money funding campaigns for politicians instead of using the funds to help the
low-level workers have good working conditions.
The organization should start giving loans with no or very low-interest rates to members
to ensure their growth. The loans granted to the members of the organization will improve their
living standards (Baum, 2016. The main goal of this idea is to improve the living standards of the
people and by doing so; the people will develop a lot of trust with the interest group. This idea
would need some resources such as money that will enable them to give loans to the people. In
doing this the growth of workers will be ensured and the organization will have to achieve a
smooth running of all activities involved. Moreover, the organization will gain a lot of trust from
its customers by providing loans and financial assistance thus customer retention.
