TASK 1
The topics of abortion, masturbation and homosexuality must be addressed in the
schools and in the counselling sessions by teachers or parents. Thus, this discussion presents
the analysed outcomes and responses in favour of the importance of sex education and the
relevance of different aspects related to it. It will benefit the child in the adolescent while
making correct decisions.
The subjects of masturbation should be addressed but not in a formal session with the
teachers or a formal set up but must be taken in an informal and friendly way by parents if
comfortable or by some counsellor. In an interview, it was recorded that the students found it
very embarrassing to get taught about the topic like masturbation by their teacher (Weale,
2014).
Sex education must include teaching about sexual orientation and gender identity as
well. It helps a person in framing their life development and identity. Homosexuality is an
important matter that must be strengthened in society and children must be made aware of
this aspect which will help them in self-realization (Slater, 2013).
Sex education must enforce the learning about abortion since every girl or women has
right and full-fledged control over their life decisions and consequences. The province of
abortion for the accidental cases such as unplanned pregnancies must be included and
informed. Parallelly that must be made aware of the law firms and legal aspects associated
with abortion as well. Since in most cases it is illegal to get the foetus aborted. (Ipas, 2018).
In a response by two of the classmates, it is being recorded from a respondent that
masturbation, homosexuality and abortion are not a sin but basic choices which is not a crime
and is harmless to the society. Respondent adds that these topics should not be stigmatized
but must be supported by teaching the children and youth about these aspects and their
outcomes. Another respondent believes that it is dependent on the child’s family background
and perspective of their parents. It is their right to decide what is right and wrong for their
child. Further, respondents agree on promoting the assessment of these topics among children
and youth (Lehmiller, 2017).
