CRITICAL REFLECTION
Some of the most common psychological causes of sexual dysfunction include distraction,
previous learning experiences, beliefs about sexual difficulties, body image, personality and
attachment style, and mental illness. First, distraction often takes the form of spectatoring
(Masters & Johnson, 1970), which involves over-thinking or over-analyzing one’s own
sexual performance while having sex.
Live the present, indulge among one another, rate the performance of each other later.
The truth or the lesson that is being communicated through the above quote is that several
psychological factors tends to effect the sexual performance of an individual which leads to its
dysfunction. One of the common fact that tends to affect the sexual performance is spectating
one’s own sexual activity by simply coming out of the moment and examining how she or he is
actually performing. Over thinking during the time of the sexual activity will lead to the creation
of the anxiety that tends to limit or lessen the arousal or the want of orgasm (Silva, 2019).
This truth or the lesson is very significant as it helps in understanding the living the
moment is the present is very important rather than examining the quality of the performance. If
one tends to live in the moment, the performance of the individual tends to be automatically the
best (AKAR).
The fact that an individual will be mainly focused on examining in the performance of
itself during the sexual activity will itself create anxiety and discomfort among the partners
which eventually create problems among the two (Hughes, Rostant & Curran, 2014). Therefore,
this quote is logically very much justified.

CRITICAL REFLECTION
Sexual intimacy tends to involve the emotions of two individuals. If two individual’s are
not emotionally connected towards each other and examining each other’s performance during
the time of the sexual activity, it will lead to failure in itself (Patursson, 2019).
This lesson is relevant to my own life and career in the sense that I must work hard by not
examining how well I am working or assume what will be the ultimate outcome. I must simply
focus on my work and leave for the result in the future. If I tend to give my best in my own way
and live the moment, I will ultimately attain success in the upcoming future.
Some tends to feel that this truth is important as living the present and sharing the
moments with the loved ones tends to be more important to them rather than examining their
own performance.
Some fail to take this lesson as important because they feel if they do not examine how
they are performing, they will never be able to fix themselves and make changes accordingly. It
is during the process of examining, they tend to fail by themselves (Puckett et al., 2018).
If one tends to examine their performance instead of performing, the performance tends
to be bad in itself. Hence, focus must be made on the performance of the present situation, the
examination can be conducted later. It is by explaining this to the others who do not agree with
the lesson, the importance of the lesson can be communicated to them.
Sex education must be incorporated in school and campaigns must be initiated so that
people being aware of the facts that are associated with it (Curtiss, 2013).
