What constitute Sexual harassment in a workplace?
Sexual assault is a forceful conduct on victim for sexual advantages, which make them
humiliated or harassed. The sex determination law 1984 clearly stated sexual harassment as
unlawful. Harassing may include physical assault, name-calling, insults, intimidation, slurs,
offensive jokes, pictures and many more. Crude conversation, general sexual banter and
offensive jokes at workplace are includes in unlawful sexual harassment. A supervisor, a co-
worker, or a client could indulge in these dirty practices with their female worker or female
client. In addition, it still count if a black female workers bullied by their white co-worker or
team leader. It should also note that the person in power like manager or boss also ensure that
any social contact with his or her employee should welcomedi.
Work place not only include office boundaries but also the places where employees reported
for their respective work like travelling outside the city for work, office parties and more.
Unwilling attitude towards the employee outside the office campus (but for office work also
registered in sexual harassment at work place. Manager can combat the risk of sexual assault
by implying proper code of conduct and strict punishment. This also increase absenteeism
and employees turnover ratio. Especially, it coerce female employees. Every employees have
a duty to create safe environment and assure the work place free from these types of
behaviour1.
