A Project on Taking Control of Teenage Sexual Health Awareness

This project aims to increase sexual health awareness among teenagers by providing information and addressing social pressures related to sexual activity. The project utilizes social media to interact with students aged 13-15 over three consecutive Saturdays. Strategies include reaching out to school administrations, briefing students, and recruiting them into social media groups managed by nursing students. The materials posted will include text, images, and videos on student-chosen topics, with prompt questions and blog sections for discussion. Students are assigned registration IDs, and all comments are moderated to ensure appropriate content. The project emphasizes the importance of understanding sexual health for personal control and informed choices.

Goals
• To increase sexual health awareness among teenagers by
providing information on sexual health.
• To enlighten teenagers on the effects of social pressure and
becoming sexually active.
• To give teenagers control of their life thus allowing them to
decide when to become sexually active.

Background information
• The need for sexual health education among teenagers is driven by
the increased access to health information (Gadkari, Somani, Nayak,
& Giri, 2012).
• In today’s world, teenagers have access to sex related information
like pornography which is uncontrolled in most cases.
• The teenage age is more productive since teenagers are seeking to
explore and discover their sexual life by trying new things.
• Research shows that 13% of teenagers have already had sex by the
age of 15 (Salam, et al., 2016).
• Social media and internet allows easy access to teenagers who have
access to internet

Promotion Process
• The promotion will utilize social media as a tool for interacting
one with students without necessarily having to assemble them in
one place.
• The promotion will take place for three days which will be spread
through three consecutive Saturdays.
• The participants will be students aged between the ages of 13-15
years.
• Each school will have a social media group where the promotion
information will be posted and at the same time allowing the
students to ask sexual health related questions.

Strategies
• The team will reach out to the school administration and seek
permission to brief the students about the campaign.
• The team will meet with the students and elaborate on the need
for using social media for the campaign.
• The student’s will be recruited into the group so that all of them
can have access to the group.
• A team of three nursing student’s will be in charge of managing
any group and responding to the issues.

Materials
• Information will be posted based on topics that will be chosen by the
students.
• This will be a mixture of plain text, picture images and short video
clips.
• Each topic will have its own session to allow the student’s to share and
address the issues that affect them.
• There will be prompt questions where students will be allowed to
discuss under the blog section.
• The nursing students will respond to these blogs by addressing the
sexual health needs of the students and allowing them to react.

Instructions for students to follow
• The group is for discussing general and not personal issues.
• Each student will be assigned a random number that will be used
as a registration ID.
• Those who post personal comments will be blocked from
commenting or responding and only allowed to read.
• All comments and responses will go through the administrators
for verification before they can be posted on the group.
• Members are encouraged to stick to the topic of the day to avoid
being blocked.

• Sexual development is a stage that if not controlled can hae dire
consequences.
• Teenagers need to understand their sexual health as a way of
taking control of their life.
