Introduction
Goals and objectives are essential in every body life as to stay focus. Students Goals are
those goals which a student set for its better future and a prospers life . These goals are way to
success of student. The goals may be short team or long term in nature which depends on want of
individual student in there life (Assiter, 2017). Short term are those goals which can be achieved in
short time period which does not exceed one year. Long term goals are those which require long
term planning and efforts and generally exceeds one year time period.
Main Body
Importance of short term and long term goals
Short term goals : this are those one which a individual set in short run for achieving small
targets. They require short period of time for there fulfilment. They also act as path in achievement
of long term goals.
Achievable : The most important thing about these goals is that they can easily achieved
without get any interruption. For example a student set goal for studding 10 hour continue
which is a long term process and unachievable in 1 month . But if he/she set target for 1
hour daily then they can achieve it in 10 days and by continues efforts they can achieve 10
hour target to. So short term targets can achieve easily.
Focus on one thing : Short term goals allows students in focusing on single targets which
eliminates confusion in targets and reduce wastage of efforts. focus will not only help you
stay motivated, but it will also help your productivity, and have you achieving your long-
term goal quicker (McGuire, 2015).
Long term goals : These are those goals which a student set by focusing on long term
targets like what they have to do after graduation, in which company they have to go etc. According
to student perspective, long term are are important for them to be static about their goals and
objectives which they want to achieved. So, it makes them confident and advanced thinker to be
aware about situation as well as activities. Thus, long term goals are crucial as they help in
sharpening of the minds and thoughts. They give a clear picture about what a student wants to
achieve.
Carrier oriented : The major importance of long term goal in students life is that they are
carrier oriented. As long term goals always help a individual to achieve its carrier objectives
by regular following them (Wilson, 2018).
Futuristic vision- Another importance of long term goal is to analyse the vision of
individual so they can develop strategies to attain them within given time period.

Sense of greater purpose : Long term objectives give meaning to most, otherwise,
mundane tasks. We don’t wake up in the morning to go to work, spend 8 hours in the office
to turn home and relax in front of TV for the rest of the evening. We have something great to
look forward to. We have something that fires us up; something that has the potential to
nourish our personal, professional and spiritual life (Lim, 2018).
CONCLUSION
With the aid of setting goals and objectives it will become easy for a student to attain their
goals within given time frame. Therefore, it is quite essential for a student or a person who wants to
gain positive results within given time frame and in an effective manner.
