This story is set in the future time. It is in the year 2350 AD. The story sets out how
technology has affected the world and condition of human beings in the world. This story takes
place at Europe in the country of Croatia. It is the time of winter and people are getting frozen
because of too much of cold and snowfall. It is a time when schools are closed and young
children enjoy their time in their houses. Common people in Croatia used many machines while
communicating with other people but this technology is much developed than mobile phones.
The main characters of this story are Adrian, his wife Angela and their only son Robert.
They live in a small house near the capital city of Croatia, Zagreb. Robert is only seven years old
and he has just started to go to school very recently. Both Adrian and Angela are addicted to
technology and they do not have much time to provide to their son.
In the story, both the parents are always busy in communicating with other people. Their
son feels very much alone since he needs his parents to care for him. This creates a sense of
grievance in the mind of Robert. In the future years, Robert grows up to be a selfish person and
he hates all kinds of technological communicative machines because he understands these things
as main reasons for his solitude. Day by day, he gets alienated from the society and ventures in
his own life when he found out a book from an archive in his house. One day he gets the news
that both his parents died due to a car accident as they were engrossed in using technological
gadgets while his father was driving a latest fashioned car. Slowly, he gets very upset and
decides that he would go to a forest and live his life among nature.
The moral lesson that can be derived from this lesson is that parents should always give
attention to their children. Technology might be a boon for the society but it should not be used
in a wrong way. The way in which technology was used was not all good in terms of its results.

Robert could have lived a very beautiful life with care and affection of its parents but misuse of
technology resulted in a sorrowful diversion of his life.
One proverb that can relate to this story is excess of anything is not good for anyone. It is
indeed very true since Robert’s life took an unexpected turn because of death of his parents. It
resulted in his mental trauma that would not let him live him a happy life in future.
The language used in story reveals that the family of three mentioned here were mainly
from a middle class background. They had sufficient money to run their household and they were
full of high expectations from life. This did not let them focus on the well being of their children
and ultimately their addiction for technological gadgets made them lose their lives and make
Robert an orphan.
