1. Under the management of Siemens, the DMI project delayed and failed to materialize
per the set-out deliverables. The failure to deliver on the given timeline prompted the BBC to
approach Siemens for the termination of the contract. BBC considered itself capable of
successfully implementing the project hence the call for contract termination.
2. The BBC DMI project team failed to offer sufficient communication of project status
to their executive sponsors and government oversight team. The reporting arrangements seemed
less purposeful and no particular executive took charge of the entire project to see it successfully
completed. They also failed to communicate vital information when important concerns from
employees rose pertaining to the project’s progress.
3. Bad project management practices that led to the project’s failure include:
a). Failure to engage in a comprehensive independent evaluation of the entire project to
determine its technical shortcomings. Due to this negligence, the project faced significant
bottlenecks that caused delays and the ultimate project failure.
b). The executives depicted poor planning as they failed to assign project responsibility to senior
personnel. Consequently, it became impossible to bring together all the elements of the project
throughout the approval and execution phases of the project.
c). Poor monitoring and evaluation of the project manifested and resulted in the failure to keep
track of the project's milestones as well as its deliverables.
d). Poor leadership and reporting throughout the project allowed for wastage to occur without
timely action to remedy the situation.
