INTRODUCTION
Life events play a crucial role in every individual’s life because life in uncertain and there
are several kinds of uncertain risk, hazard etc. It is very important for the human beings to enjoy
every moment in their life. Significant life event refers to major changes in person's
circumstances that influence their whole life. Life events is normative event which can be
defined as unexpected. Significant life events leave lifetime impact on an individual’s life. The
present report provides the knowledge about significance of life events and its impact upon
individuals as well as on their family member.
1.1 Explanation about the implication of significant life events on individual
In every individual there are some significant life events which provides experiences to
the individual regarding their lite. By this event every one can learn something new. Significant
life event always put a negative as well as positive impact on an individual’s life. As per the
given case scenario, Rita has died in her sleep due to breast cancer. As cancer is unpredictable
health issue which can occurred in anyone in their life and it is very serious problem (Billingsley
and Lang, 2002). While any individual occurs this health issue then they have to take proper
treatment. A cancer patient is different as compare to all other people. A cancer patient always
feels uncomfortable and uncertain all the time in their life because cancer is that health problem
under which patient can die any time. Due to this issue of Rita, she was always feeling fear in
their life because she has breast cancer. (Andrews, Reddy and Whelan, 2011).
As Rita and Sue was good friends with other eight residential but after acknowledged that
she has breast cancer her behaviour is completely changed. After acknowledged that Rita have
breast cancer, she has got depression and stress as she loosed her appetite through which results
in loosing of health. As per the case, it has been also found that after knowing that Rita has
breast cancer, she occupied with several physical changes as it affected her mentally as well as
physically. As there are several side effects of the cancer treatment such as risk of infection,
nausea, vomiting, etc. Due to these all risk, Rita have refused to take treatment of cancer. Thus,
from this case it has been found that there are several impacts of significant of life events.
As per this case it has been ascertained that life event is uncertain as everyone have
uncertainty to face something new in their life either that will good or bad. While any event
occurred in every individual then their behaviour can completely change as previous (Entwistle

and Quick, 2006). It has been analysed that every individual should enjoy their life until the
uncertain situation not occurred in their life. Everyone should enjoy their life events in such
manner that they cannot influence by the negative moments in their life.
Rite is old and enjoyed living at resident care home because at home she used to feel
alone and it cares centre she had good interaction with residents especially with Sue who was 40
year old. Isolation is the situation which impact human mind and thinking due to which the
person is unable cope up with loneliness. However, in residential care home she started
interacting with people and involving in outdoor activities in communal garde. Engagement of
Rita with residents denotes her participation in social activity. Further, willingness to stay fit by
involving in outdoor activities reflects behavioural changes of Rita in care home.
1.2 Analysis of the possible group responses to significant life events that occurs to one of its
members
As per the above discussion on the significance of life events, it has been found that
individual who is suffering from the cancer has a huge impact of life event. Rita has faced
several situations and there is a direct impact of significance of life event. Apart from that, it has
also been found that not only individuals affected by the life event but also affected people who
are around that particular person. The family members and friends are equally affected the
significant life event of the individual (Acton, 2013). While other friends and carers in the small
sheltered housing project acknowledged that Rita has breast cancer, then they all started to give
her support. They all have started to provide mental as well as financial support. They developed
stronger relationship with Rita and connected with them all the time in this duration (Adams,
2007). However, it has also been found that there are also some members who are influenced in a
negative manner as they tried to run from the patient. In addition to this, some member thoughts
that this is very burdened situation for them so they break the relationship with patients.
Significant events of life like death of Rita created huge impact on residents because every
person was engaged with in outdoor and social activities. However, as per the situation it is
important for care home service providers to govern activities of residents. Governance will
ensure safe and security of environment. However, on the other hand it is important for the
organisation to involve Sue and other 8 resident in social and playful activities in order to distract
their mind.

1.3 Analysis of the impact for others in health and care when an individual experiences
significant life events
As per the given case scenario, Rita have suffered from the huge health issue that is
breast cancer. One day she found that she have cancer then she refused to take treatment from
specialised. As cancer patient required effective care and treatment from care worker in the
hospital and they desire effective support and love from friends and family member. In the case
of Rita, she did not take the treatment from care experts that is why within a few months, she
died. As per the study, it has been found that a cancer patient requires effective treatment and
care from the doctor as well as their family members or friends. As there are various kinds of
cancer such as blood cancer, breast cancer, stomach cancer, throat cancer, lung cancer etc. Thus
it can be said that a care experts and doctor always provides treatment and care to the patient
according to the level of cancer and type. It is very important for the professionals to understand
stage of cancer and find out the best treatment and care service for it so as it can easily improve.
In the health and care organisation, management should provide well effective and structured
training to the doctors and care worker so as they can provide effective care services and
treatment to patient and improve their issue. Cancer patient also required various kinds of
therapies if their problem gets more dangerous. Sometime, cancer patient also go in the stress
and depression so it is also very important to family and friends to deliver such effective support,
care services, love and faith so as patient cannot alone themselves. By effective care and support,
family and friends can provide emotional support to patients.

of death happening all around the world due to major health illness. In order to overcome the
health issue and deliver effective treatment to patient, it is very important for the management of

which it can improve health issue of patients. As per the case, Rita have illness of breast cancer
so she required effective treatment. In this case, many of the policies and procedure set by the
health care organisation to deal with cancer. These policies and procedure are as follows-

are effective because it helps in distracting human mind from significant of life. Like after

Whitaker, 2017). Another response is to provide high quality methods and treatment criteria so
that they can deliver high quality of care services and treatment to patient. Another respond is to
adopt effective monitoring and assessment method so as health expert can identify the effective
treatment and care service according to types of patient. Communication and effective working
environment is also very important to treat the patient of cancer in health and care organisation.
Health care expert should adopt friendly nature with patients so that they can discuss their issue
and health problem. Furthermore, by effective nature and behaviour with patient, doctor can also
be able to analyse the nature of patient so that they can create effective working environment
and atmosphere within the hospital. By this response, patients can feel happy and comfortable in
the health and care organisation. With assistance of the effective communication, effective
responses, behaviour, training and development of workers in the health and care organisation,
Rita can get the high quality of treatment and care services through which she can able to
improve her health issue efficient and effective manner. Rita can feel comfortable if other
member like friend and family member effectively communicate with her.

Being a nurse in the health and care organisation, I think my personal contribution towards
support of individual experiencing significant life event is still in a developmental phase. I have
to learn several kinds of effective treatment and care services through which I can be able to
improve the health of patient. While I have meet the patient of breast cancer in the hospital,
firstly I communicated with them in very polite and familiar manner so as I can understand their
issue and find of the major reason behind this significant life event. By analysing myself ki have
found that I have effective communication and analysing skill that helps me in understand the
issue of patient and provide treatment (Oh and et.al., 2017). I required to improve my knowledge
about to treatment of patient who have cancer disease. Being a nurse in the health and care
organisation, I required to improve my knowledge and skill for treating the patient of breast
cancer. In order to improve the treatment and care services of cancer patient, I will attend
training and development in health and care sector so as I can understand the way to treating
patient in effective and efficient manner.
3.3 Improvement Recommendations
In health and care organisation, there is the requirement to improve further procedure,
policies and system so that health care experts can deliver high quality of treatment to patients in
order to improve their health problem.
Health and social care organisation’s management should organise effective training and
development program for health experts and care workers so that they can learn ways and
methods to treat the patient of cancer.
Health care organisation should develop a friendly, peaceful and impressive working
environment within organisation so that patients and their family members can stay there with
comfort.
