Idea
With the advent of the technology and smart cities it is possible to automate the
emergency response process for any kind of emergency situations so that economic and
human lives can be minimized. For this paper the fire and road accidents related emergency
response system is proposed using the IoT. Use of the location control sensors, flame
detecting, smoke and heat detectors in the residential as well as commercial building can help
in collection of data and sending them to the specific authorities through the use of the IoT
enabled devices and environment.
Use case scenarios
In order to develop the system, it is important to connect all the devices in the
different buildings as well as in roadways, traffic signals with the cloud based IoT platform.
With the preinstalled sensing devices, in case this detects any kind of unusual change in the
measured metrics can help in the detection of an accident. In a typical scenario whenever any
vehicle experiences collision then the sensors will send the information to the nearby
emergency response authorities such as hospitals, fire services, police and so on. For the
road accidents the accelerometer data, heat sensors data, CCTV video footages can be used to
detect and send alerts to the authorities. On the other hand, in case any emergency in the
buildings (Commercial as well as residential) the fire sensors, earthquake sensors can help in
alerting the authorities as well as the people inside the buildings in order to minimize the
economic loss and deaths in the accidents.

connectivity to the internet may lead to the risk of leakage of data and may generate false
alerts.
