Homework Assignment
AI Summary
This assignment focuses on identifying and documenting the pain points experienced by Leckie's Choice (LC) and formulating a problem statement based on these issues. The identified pain points include challenges in requirements gathering, estimating the level of effort, managing the development environment, and dealing with the testing phase. The problem statement highlights that LC's customer orders are mainly handled offline, leading to a decline in sales and customer dissatisfaction due to inefficient service delivery and a lack of promotions. The current website is also identified as company-oriented rather than consumer-oriented, further contributing to the issues. The overall goal is to address these pain points to improve sales and customer satisfaction.

Pain points
Requirements gathering: The first pain comes from defining or establishing what you
are trying to build and why you are building it. In the case of LC’s business case, it is
very important to understand what it is the client wants and why they need it built.
The needs of LC are varying, first clients need a software that allows them to order
online besides they need promotional offers, customer loyalty rewards program, and
service delivery needs to be efficient and effective. All these must be covered and the
overall goal is to increase sales. How well will the development capture such dynamic
needs should it be consumer oriented or company oriented.
Estimating the level of effort: as a developer, the time and effort required to plan,
build, test, and deploy the application comes into play visa viz the timelines stipulated
by the organization. The client’s expectations versus the time required for the
successful implementation of the project based on the developers’ experience must be
managed.
Development environment: the development environment is as important, as a
developer one has to worry about connecting to the various third party internal and
external servers. Moreover, various system administrators will be involved and
challenges include getting access to the various systems via the VPN and the public
and private key exchange protocols.
Testing: From basic unit testing to end-to-end testing for whatever reason this is
painful for developers largely because it is a bit mundane and the client or project
stakeholders usually under appreciate it. Test-driven development is ideal since it
provides some level of comfort out of the gate but it takes quite a bit of discipline to

stick with and can appear slower as not everyone involved in the project can see the
long-term benefits and timesaving.
Problem statement
Leckie’s Choice has an informative web site; however, customer orders are mainly dealt with
over the phone and e-mail at local branches, as the business website does not support
ordering. There are prevailing worries that the company is not keeping up with the current
market trends sand as a result, the sales have declined. Customers are currently more
inquisitive more than the sales staff can handle.
Secondly, customers are complaining that the service delivery is not efficient and effective
enough making them to seek alternatives. There are complains that LC does not offer
sufficient promotions which is a management concern. There is a disconnect between
marketing program in place and the consumer expectations. Moreover, the current website
does not reflect the needs of the consumer; it is company oriented rather than consumer
oriented.
