IDENTIFICATION AND EVALUATION OF SKILL SETS AND CAREER
AMBITION
In the competitive market it is important for an individual to enhance their skills and
knowledge continuously so that personal and professional development can be achieved so that
the person can be successful in their career. Personal skills of employees play an important role
in the success of an organisation as they can perform their roles efficiently and can face
challenges in an effective manner (Gamrat and et. al., 2014). Some skills are inbuilt i.e. present
from birth whereas others has to be acquired so that an understanding can be developed in the
area where the person want to excel in their careers i.e. becoming a manager in a big company.
Before applying for the job of a manager in a big company I'll conduct SWOT analysis for
myself so that I can identify my strengths and weaknesses and the possible threats and
opportunities that will help me to succeed in my career.
Strengths are the factors that helps an individual in achieving their personal goals and
objectives and giving the individual self satisfaction. These strengths can help the person to

perform their tasks better and the learning process can be more quick (Hicks and et. al., 2014). I
have analysed that I am a fast learner and my communication skills are strong. I am also good at
taking quick decisions by analysing the complete scenario and studying both the positive and
negative impact of my decision in that situation. This strength can help me in taking good
decisions that will be profitable for complete organisation. I'm also good at dealing with people
and coming up with better solutions for any issues faced by them.
Weaknesses are the areas where the individual lacks confidence and knowledge to
perform their task efficiently (Murdoch-Eaton and Sandars, 2014). I have realised that some of
my weaknesses are that I am very sympathetic and emotional which makes my will power weak
at certain situations. Also I have high temper which is not good for my profession over the time
and affects my performance.
Opportunities are the chances that can be taken by an individual to grow and develop
both personally and professionally. My qualifications and past experiences in finance and HR
field can give me an opportunity to choose any organisation where I want to apply. Also I am
good at effective communication, I haver patience and I'm polite along with many other skills
that are generally required by any profession.,
Threats are the factors that might cause problems or obstacles in the careers of the
individual and also affects their performance (Patton, Parker and Tannehill, 2015). I have
realised that my technical skills are weak this is a threat for me and can reduce my chances of
selection. Also the number of job applicants are increasing at a fast rate which also causes a
threat.
Kolb's learning cycle theory is concerned with the ability of a each individual to learn.
It states that there are four stage cycle of learning and also four different learning styles which
are : Concrete learning which states that individuals learn from their own experiences, reflective
observation of the new experience which suggests that individual obserbve and analyse
situations before taking any decisions, abstract conceptualisation states that individuals think
logically and appropriately before reacting towards a given situation and the last style is active
experimentation which suggests that people can influence others so that they can be made to do
the work from the perceptions of the individual (Prosek and Hurt, 2014). I follow abstract
conceptualisation which is related to thinking logically in every situation which makes my
decision-making good and effective.

models processes so that the efficiency of employees can be improved and they can be motivated

making skills which are influenced by the abstract conceptualisation that I apply in all the
situations so that profitable decisions can be made for the company. I can deal with the staff
members and can solve their conflicts efficiently and can also deal with their issues so that their
efficiency to perform can be enhanced and they can remain motivated to achieve organisational
goals and targets on time and within budget.

According to the above analyses and evaluation of my skills, there are some aspects
which identified are stated, that I have competency to undertake my career ambition effective but
due to global competition and changes in technology. I have to keep monitor on my regular skills
in order to match them with the required job. Like it is mandatory for the manager of large
organisation to learn analytical skills. Therefore, I applied for those course that improves my

Moreover, there are various sectors are also identified in which my skills match with the job.
Like the FMCG and banks are performing their business at global level. It governs that there are
various opportunities are provide by this sector, so I need to become a constant learner which
helps me to work with more experience. This governs that factors related with the large
