Work Based Learning: Skill Development and Future Job Readiness

This report details the skills and competencies acquired through work-based learning, emphasizing its role in bridging the gap between education and professional careers. It highlights the VARK model and its impact on visual, aural, reading/writing, and kinesthetic learning styles. The report discusses the development of skills such as seminar and discussion abilities, presentation skills, reading skills, teamwork capabilities, advanced skills like negotiation and project management, academic argumentation, and graduate attributes. It also covers workplace skills including positive attitude, communication, time management, and teamworking ability. INTRODUCTION
Work based learning is an educational strategy voice students would realize work
experience where they can apply academic and technical skills it will be helpful in
developing their employability. It is a proactive approach which bridges the gap between high
school and high school careers. It is essential to develop skills as by personal and professional
development this can be helpful in attracting employment opportunities and enhances
knowledge through which assigned tasks and duties can be met effectively. The VARK
model of learning style states that there are four types of learners- visual auditory, reading
and writing and kinesthetic (de la Puente Pacheco, M. A and et.al., 2021). The initials of
VARK stands for visual, aural, read/ write and kinesthetic. This report will define my work-
based learning skills and competencies. The research will discuss learnings from the module
which supported in developing and shaping skills for future development. This paper will
outline my learning thought out the module and how other skills will be developed for future
job and employment opportunity.
TASK
Learning from the module
This module has been a medium for enhancing and developing various skins which
can be helpful in attracting effective employment opportunities. This model has been the
medium photo editing workplace skills which will assist in performing activities in the
organization more effectively. From this module I observed that innovation in learning plays
a crucial role as this can drive interest in learning sessions where students can actively engage
in those sessions. There are various factors or variables which are helpful in creating
innovative approaches of teaching which can drive learners (Edelenbosch, R and et.al., 2015).
The variables which can create effective instruction methods are- active student involvement,
attracting student attention, boosting their motivation, individual principle and displays used
in lessons.
Individual learning style refers to style which can be used in the process of learning or
can be considered as the approach followed by student for concentrating in order to process
and obtain information through which their knowledge and experience can be enhanced. This
module chip Oatley understanding the cognitive aspect off learning style rich refers to
strategy and technique that is followed by students while studying. Through this module I
was able to enhance video skills which will support in bringing cognitive changes. As per the

module I understood that different pedagogy strategies of tutors help in developing various
skills which can be helpful in building a strong career. As learning style is cognitive this can
define how individuals interact and respond to learning environment. From this module I
understood that learners which have more than one learning style can be termed as bimodal.
In this module, i was able to develop various skill sets with the help of VARK model.
This model supported me in developing my visual, aural, reading or writing and kinesthetic
skills. From this module I understood that in visual mode students are more acceptable for
learning through interpreting charts, pictures, graphs and figures (Gary, K., 2015). In Aural
mode, students focus on gathering information by listening and discussion. Whereas in
reading mode these students tend to collect information in a printed format. Lastly in
kinesthetic mode, learners are keener towards accepting learning based on behavior.
Some of the skills which are developed from this module are addressed below:
 Seminars and discussion- this module supported in enhancing seminar related skills
where I was able to develop do my ability to connect with the audience by ensuring an
interesting topic and has been selected. From this module, I understood the value of
engaging information which supported me in attracting the attention of audience. This
module supported in improving my visual skills, my communication skills where I
was able to share right message with the right audience at right time through which
the attention of audience can be attracted. This module enhanced my concentration
and attentiveness would support me in determining the main ideas which are
discussed and ultimately improved my and discussion skills (Glen, S., 2017). As
while giving a seminar all presentation the host must have strong discussion skills
which will be helpful in clearing doubts of audience and from this module, I was able
to work on my listening skills and understanding which announced my
communication skills through which I can discuss with others effectively.
 Presentation skills- this module supported me in improving my presentation skills
where I was able to develop my visual skills through which I can understand that
information and actively participate in activities. From this module, I was able to
develop my presentation skills where I can present my ideas through innovative
approaches which will drive the attention of fellow people. This module made me
understand the value of pictures graphs and other sources which can be helpful in
making interactive and eye-catching presentations. From this module I understood

that by using such sources will also help in communicating the information to users in
more efficient manner we write message can be shared.
 Reading skills- this module has been the medium and improving my reading and
writing skills which will be helpful in announcing the overall personality. Eyes
reading skills are the ability of a person to read interpret and decode the written
information. This module supported me in developing my reading and writing skills
which bill be helpful in avoiding miscommunication and misunderstanding in
workplace. Throughout this module, in order to improve my reading skills there, I
focused on different aspects such as decoding (Helyer, R., 2015). Decoding is a skill
which relies on phenomic awareness and search skill development supported me in
hearing individual sound in words through which I can connect to them. It’s also
improved my fluency and this module offered me an opportunity to explore new
vocabulary. From this module, I worked on my reading skills which was helpful in
understanding the quoted information inappropriate manner.
 Team work skills- from this module I was able to develop my team working abilities
it supported me in creating new ideas, learning new skills, communicate effectively
and motivate each other through it shared objective can be accomplished. Throughout
the module I understood the value of keeping a positive mindset which will create a
direct impact on the overall team working ability and team performance. From the
module I understood that it is essential to share enthusiasm and established team rules
with clear purpose through which whole team game understand their roles and
responsibilities and collectively work as individual and as a team for accomplishing
the objectives (Karpicke, J. D., 2017). This module made me realize that in order to
work in a team it is essential to develop time management skills through which a
synergy in team can be created.
 Advanced skills- from this module I was able to develop my advance skills such as-
negotiation skills, project management skills, problem solving ability, culture building
skills, communication skills and the ability to advise others by actively taking
participation in each of those work.
 The nature of academic argument- throughout this module I was able to work on
my academic argumentation skills where I got the opportunity to participate in
arguments through which I can work on my critical thinking, reasoning and cognitive
skills. The development of such skill from this module encouraged me in sharing my

opinions on the topic and take active participation in discussions where I can learn
and develop my skills and knowledge by interacting with people.
 Graduate attributes- These are high level skills and understanding off students
through which they can ensure long term personal development which will be helpful
in workplace as well. Throughout the module I was able to work on my graduate
attributes such as- entrepreneurship skills, communication skills, technical skills,
problem solving ability, creative thinking and many others. This module also
supported me in developing intercultural and ethical competence, leadership skills and
discipline through which I can meet the assigned role and performance standard
effectively.
Workplace skills acquired
Workplace skills no often called as employability skills which are basic skills a person
must have in order to succeed in workplace. From this module I was able to enhance my core
knowledge skills and attitude which will support me in understanding the instructions that are
given in workplace and such skills will be helpful in communicating with coworkers
(Kennedy, M and et.al., 2015). Throughout this module I understood that, development of
workplace skills is essential to perform daily task within an organization then it will be
helpful in meeting professional standards and targets. Some of the workplace skills which I
have learned from this module are discussed below:
 Positive attitude- From this module, I was able to work on my attitude better
understood the value of positive attitude through it I can work more effectively in the
organization. This module supported me in understanding the importance of keeping
positive attitude in an organization as this will be helpful in listening and
understanding the work which needs to be done and will also encourage in performing
up to best potential for meeting the desired objectives (Rodríguez, J and et.al., 2015).
The module helped in learning daily and accepting the change which is required
which motivated me in keeping a positive attitude and mindset through which I can
bring innovative ideas and support in development of business.
 Communication skills- This module assisted me in developing my communication
skills by focusing on my reading and writing skills. Such development of skills from
the module developed my ability to understand opinions and ideas of co-workers
which will be helpful in creating better understanding and cooperation at workplace.
This module developed my writing skills which will be useful in sharing right

message at right time through which fellow mates can understand my opinions and
creates a sense of understanding with others. With the help of strong communication
skills, it supported me in developing a sense of understanding and better interpersonal
relationship. This module supported in developing communication skills which will
be helpful in maintaining the right flow of information in workplace through which
organizational objectives can be achieved in timely manner.
 Time management skills- From this module, I was able to develop my time
management skills which ill be helpful in managing all activities and meeting the
assigned objectives in timely manner. This module supported me in understanding the
value of time management which will help me in keeping a positive attitude and in
maintaining positive organization culture as this will create a good impact on my
performance and productivity in the organization (Voet, M. and De Wever, B., 2016).
This model was the medium in using innovative approach while completing assigned
roles and responsibilities through which the assigned task can be completed in the
planned deadlines.
 Teamworking ability- Throughout tis module, I was able to develop my
teamworking skills through which I can effectively be a part of a team and work
towards the achievement of shared objective. As teamworking skills are essential and
it will be helpful in successfully working in team in an organization. From this
module, I understood that communication, active listening, accepting, respecting
others and sharing knowledge are some of the essential team working abilities which
I developed while learning from this module.
What other skills will be developed for future job
Some of the skills which I want o develop for my future job and career opportunities
are the skills which I am not good at. Such weakness affects my performance and my ability
to meet targets. Therefore, from this module, I was able to analyze my shortcomings ad the
skills which I will be focusing on developing for future employment opportunities are
discussed below:
 Technical skills- In order to gain better employment opportunity in future I need to
focus on my technical skills which are essential in today’s workplace. I was able to
develop some of my skills throughout the module and for future employability I will
focus on developing technical skills (Willis, J., 2021). The technical skills are
essential skills which are helpful in performing the daily activities of business and in

such era, such skills play crucial role in workplace. Such skills will be helpful in
performing task in much easier manner and ensure organizational objectives are met
within right period of time.
 Leadership skills- Leadership skills are essential in guiding towards right direction
and motivating the fellow mates through which everyone can collectively meet the
shared objective. I will focus on developing my leadership skills as such skills are
helpful in understanding the work which needs to be done and promote collaborative
working where we can work together through which I can work with team and focus
on ensuring organizational excellence.
 Critical thinking- Critical thinking is an essential skill for workplace and I will focus
on developing critical thinking skill through which I can observe, assume and draw
conclusion from data which will be helpful in performing assigned job roles and
responsibility in the organization (Zhang, Z., Hansen, C. T. and Andersen, M. A.,
2015). I will focus on active learning and by engaging with other mates through
which I can develop my critical thinking skills which can bring various benefits for
my future employment opportunities and will also support me in performing the
activities effectively.
 Problem solving and decision-making skills- For future employment opportunities,
I will focus on developing my problem solving and decision-making skills through
which I can maintain and encourage others to maintain a positive working scenario. I
will focus on developing problem solving skills which will be helpful in creative
innovative decisions through which conflicts can be resolved.
CONCLUSION
After analyzing the above-mentioned information, it can be summarized that Work
based learning (WBL) is educational approach where students can learn skills which are
required and necessary in workplace. Such as skills and learning are helpful in mastering the
knowledge skills and competencies which are required to perform assigned job roles and
responsibilities in the organization. This can include internships, mentoring and
apprenticeship. According to VARK model, classifying and dividing students based on mode
is essential to ensure effectiveness of each lesson. There are various skill sets which involves
hard and soft skills and these skills are helpful in enhancing employability skills through
which better employment opportunities can be developed. Employability skills are essential

for people in performing the assigned roles and responsibilities in an organization and such
skills are helpful in meeting organizational objectives and performance standards.
