INTRODUCTION
Study skills are defined as the development of certain characteristics which help a student to
enhance his or her professional life. When an individual gets a degree, it improvises the job
prospects. This also provides a technical ability for a student and develops few soft skills too.
These are necessary for managing successful life. This report includes the importance of skills
that are needed by students for successful life.

also important in the workplace
Students need to develop skills in order to manage the efficiency in their work. Skill
development and enhancement enables a person to get good career opportunities. There are some
skills which are required by students in order to be successful in university. These are mentioned
below –
Communication skills – This is known as the skill which enables a student to interact with
other people in effective manner. This will provide help to manage completion of different
activities in efficient manner. Communication is known basis of any successful cooperation and
this is bilateral and includes feedback. In context of communication, it is analysed that channels
and forms used for interacting with other people is necessary because it helps the person to
convey the message in more prominent way. Communication in a student provides possibilities
of creation and expression of content.
Time management – Time is known as a finite resource which is needed for completing all
activities and tasks properly. This includes planning and controlling the amount of time needed
to complete specific activities or tasks. There is need to manage the timings and complete work
in given time frame. For a student, time management is very important as it helps to manage
completion of different projects. Good time management skills provide help to students in
prioritising tasks so that they are able to compete assignments and work. students are able to plan
effectively their activities so that they can manage the projects properly. There is need for all
students to develop time management which is going to help them in future effectively.
Critical thinking and problem solving – It is seen that critical thinking and problem
solving are helpful for a student to conduct daily activities efficiently. Students can tackle all
situations properly through effective critical thinking and they can conceptualise, analyse,

evaluate and apply information for guiding an individual’s belief. On the other hand, problem
solving helps students for developing a solution and applying them to reach a solution. There is
significant responsibility on students for developing characteristics that help to complete role
properly. There are various benefits for a student to draw conclusions and make decisions at right
time. The ability for independently conducting the researches and verifying issues from different
parties can be initiated.
Analytical skills – This is known as ability of an individual for collecting and analysing
data. This includes making decisions on the basis of present information. This provides students
to perform well in academics and these skills are also helpful for a person in organisational field.
This skill is a determinant for success and productivity. Analytical skills are technical ones and
these are used on daily basis in a student life. These are helpful for detecting different patterns,
observing, brainstorming, interpretation of data and integration of information. There are several
students who can demonstrate the ability for analysing data and developing informed decisions
by using analytical skills. Moreover, analytical skills help in improving academic stand for a
student.
Honesty and integrity – These are essential traits which should be present in academic and
professional life. A relation between student and teacher can be developed through trust and
mutual respect. These type of relationships can lead to great recommendations and references. In
real world, this is concluded that employers are more likely to recruit a person who is having a
reputation for being honest. Honesty is an important skill that creates ethical and moral values
among people. In business context, there is necessity of conducting business operations ethically.
That is why honesty and integrity develops an individual personally as well as professionally.
Students are taught that they should avoid plagiarism in their work. This teaches an individual
that he or she should not cheat while working in an organisation. Also, it is very important that
they are adapting honesty and ethics while conducting different operations and activities. It is
also seen that working in business can be successful if the person is honest and follows integrity
in working.

Curriculum vitae plays an important role in the corporate life of candidate. Curriculum vitae
is the first thing which provides information about the academic qualification, skills known and
practical knowledge about the candidate. Curriculum vitae must be attractive it can be attractive

by a way of clear formatting, large content of skills of candidates. A CV is known as
comprehensive statement of the educational background, research experience and teaching. This
is standard representation of credentials in context of academia. It is very important that CV
should contain all details about opportunities and advantages of research and experience of the
student.
Recommendation that will help student curriculum vitae
 Youth employment programmes – Youth employment programmes refers to those
programmes conduct by government or any other organisation to develop the practical
skills in students. The main aim of these programmes is to provide knowledge to a
student which helps them to take job in any corporate organisation. Under this
programmes several lecture sessions by field experts in conduct, it organises various
workshops for the students. The participation certificates of these programmes adds an
attractive content in student’s curriculum vitae
 Part time jobs – Nowadays, in corporate world business organisations prefer students
having an experience instead of fresher. There are many part time jobs are available for
students where students can do work along with their studies. Students learned many
useful skills and corporate knowledge, it also gives strong corporate connections to
students which helps them to take jobs after the completion of their studies. The work
experience mentioned in student’s curriculum vitae makes a great effect on the mind of

 Distance learning courses – Distance learning courses refers to those courses where
students gain knowledge about particular subject not physically but digitally. Under these

 Gap year – Gap year is generally time interval which student can take between their
completion of schooling and start of college. This gap year gives time to student to think
about their career, what they pursue and also enables to analyse the abilities and skills
present in them. Under this time period student can take various seminars about the
career planning, and workshops. This experience has played a great role in curriculum
vitae.

 Extra curriculum activities - Extra curriculum activities related to those activities
performed by students in addition of their studies, it includes sports, student government,
community services and art n craft. These activities add a great content in curriculum
vitae. Extracurricular activities develop good impression in front of employer’s mind. It
creates hope in employer’s mind that the candidate is positive and fun loving. Apart from
his academic work, he is also into creative work. This is a skill which every employer
wants nowadays. A person can increase his creative skills by indulging into
extracurricular activities. That is why these are necessary.
CONCLUSION
From the above discussion, it is analysed that there are lot of skills that a person possesses.
These help in enhancing career opportunities and leading to reach goals and objectives. Some of
the essential skills needed for a person in his academic as well as professional life are
communication skills, analytical skills, time management, honesty and integrity and critical
thinking and problem solving. CV’s are very important factor in a student’s life. They are made
properly so that employer can know about skills and academic qualification of a person.
