INTRODUCTION
Higher education is defined as a phrase of a life of an individual whereby an ability is
adopted by the person of learning which helps it in its future career development, it is aimed to
offer the gateway to the people of varied opportunities in future as it acts as a door which opens
many pathways whereby an individual may enhance its standard of living by studying in higher
classes. The academic skills can be referred to as the essential element in which an individual is
engaged in studies for higher education and on parallel to it, it learns some new skills that can
help in its academic era and also makes it prepared for the future career so that it can become an
efficient learner. The skills not only boost the morale and confidence of students but also brings
improvement in their learning ability by enhancing competence level as well as self-esteem.
Whenever a good set of skill is adopted by a student, improvement is brought is in its learning
ability and also it contributes in the retention of knowledge (Brandlistuen and et. al., 2020). This
report will cover skills required in the higher education and recommendations to improve CV.

There are different ways which can be figured out by a person when resolving any problem
or issue and these ways can be identified by it if it has new skills being developed. These skills
help in the recognition of the impact of its actions taken and also makes a contribution in taking
the new responsibilities. The following are the skills which must be required by the student at its
university and its importance at the workplace are illustrated thereunder-
 Time management: This skill involves brining punctuality and discipline in students. It
not only helps students in prioritising its work, activity and task so that it can be done on
time but also opens up new doors of the opportunities for them so that they can grow at
personal and professional level. at the level of university, the students acquire this skill
and built the capacity to work on time so that their focus is built and distractions are
avoided. In the same way, at a workplace, this skill helps in making the decisions
effectively on time and without any unnecessary delays so that the work is not hampered.
It helps also in meeting deadlines with no unnecessary delays (Anderson and Phillips,
2017).

 Leadership: A good leader has an ability to bring best from its members either by
guiding them towards right direction or by motivating them. The leaders are the one who
are well-organized as they maintain the records of team so that their focus can be put in
work in order to complete it on time. This skill will help students in their university to
build and maintain good relations with the other students. The students can develop this
skill by working in teams and one of them taking responsibility to lead and guide them.
This skill holds the utmost importance at workplace as it will provide opportunities to the
people to achieve their career goals by motivating them to give their best.
 Computer skills: As it is the era of technology in which it has now become important for
the people to learn the computers so that they can switch from manual working to the
computer based or machinery work in order to save efforts, time and cost of working.
This helps in working in the faster, efficient and quicker manner. The students must
develop literacy in the computers from their university level so that they can work
smartly. At employment phase, this skill will help in resolving the problems in short
period of time and also in easier manner. moreover, it will also offer growth opportunities
in future.
 Motivation: Every student must get the ability to motivate and encourage others as it is a
significant factor which can increase the performance of people. there are many ways
which can help in motivating others and it is little difficult to identify in order to develop
the competency and behaviour of the people may also be changed. This will help in
setting new targets and plan the things in such manner that it can boost their engagement.
At a workplace, this skill will help in driving commitment as well as emergency so that
the productivity level is enhanced which shall help in achievement of the goals (Lovett,
Harrison and Armstrong, 2020).
 Team work: It is such a skill which is aimed to help the people in doing the task or work
in the faster and efficient manner. This helps in division of the work among members so
that a sense of the comradery is being developed which will help in moving forward
towards the achievement of goals. It builds the confidence as well as morale of the people
so that they work altogether and help everyone whenever required. During employment
phase, this skill shall help I building coordination, cooperation as well communication so

that the professional and personal development is ensured and the work is also done with
the ideas which came from varied ability and personality.

In this era, it has now become difficult to get dream job with the Steller grades and to get the
same, it is important to put the extra efforts in it so that one person can stand apart from the
crowd. Here are some of the recommendations which can bring improvement in CV which
includes the following-
 Proofread CV in order to check grammatical errors: This is an important aspect to
improve the CV as it involves giving a read to whole CV after preparing it so that errors
of grammar can be corrected. The errors in CV can result in affecting the probability of
the student to land up in the interview. Whenever a CV is being sent to the other person,
there is an extra pair of eyes which will look into the CV and identify the errors in it.
Proofreading by other person may make the CV more impressive and effective (England,
2020).
 Include personal statement: A good personal statement in CV must be present and it
must be concise and short and highlight the level of skills, experience and professional
and personal qualities so that the individual can be seen as fit for job. It is generally a
concise summary or the paragraph which comprises of the details of the candidate such as
an opening statement. The student must have the knowledge of the same as it is climbing
the success ladder so that a personal statement may warrant experience and knowledge of
candidate. Hence, it can be said that personal statement in CV helps the candidate to
stand apart from crowd.
 Good cover letter: It is the written document which is submitted along with the CV which
covers the credentials of the candidate. It has an aim to bring attention of the employer as
it expresses the interest of the candidate in the particular job. It comprises of the specific
information such as introduction to hiring recruiter, signature and contact details of
candidate, information relating to educational qualification and many others so that
employer’s interest is put in the application (Golla, 2017 ).
 High knowledge and skills: The CV must include the skills and knowledge of the
candidate so that it can become easy to target the job for it. These also helps in attracting
the attention of the employer. When a separate section of the traits, knowledge and skills

is present in CV then professional experience can be gained. The best as well as relevant
skills must be weaved in profile of CV so that the justification for the selection of
particular job role can be given. Furthermore, there must be proper template being used
for highlighting the skills and knowledge so that job position is being reflected.
 Tailor CV with job description for meeting requirements of job: It is also essential part
which contributes in improving CV. It reflects the candidate’s interest in job and enables
it to represent the skills and experience of a candidate so that it can be made suitable for
the particular job role for which the CV is being sent. The phrases and words used in job
description must be used in CV so that the candidate can be made fit for job role (Flores,
2020).

CONCLUSION
It is concluded from this report that it is very important for the higher education students
must develop some of the skills so that it can be useful at the workplace. These include time
management, team work, motivation, leadership and computer skills. CV plays an important role
in the professional career development and it must be improved on timely basis which includes
few recommendations such as proofreading the CV, including personal statement, cover letter
and many others.
