INTRODUCTION
Skills plays an important place in the life of students because with the skills students are going to
learn many new things which will help them in their future development. For the self
development learning and acquiring useful skills is important but on the same side to work in a
team or in a group it is essential to learn certain skills which will help in the success of the group
work, FLOW EXPERIENCES OF TERTIARY LEVEL TURKISH EFL STUDENTS IN ONLINE
LANGUAGE CLASSES DURING COVID-19 OUTBREAK (Cox and Montgomery, 2019, p.27).
Group work means that work in which more than one student works and conducts the project or
any other assignment and which needs to be done in a collaboration. It has been seen that when
the students will be receiving support from other people in a group then they are more likely to
understand about the topic and that too in a faster way. When they work in a group they receive
an interactive environment which helps them in learning many new things. When students work
in a team than at that time many different things are being learnt by them and they get to know
about different information which they can use in their future time. But to work in a team it is
important to learn new skills because of which student will be able to work in a better
collaborative way. This report will cover an essay on the skills which are required in a group
work and a reflection which will be based on learning log.
MAIN BODY
Importance of skills in group work for developing student's life
Learning skills is important to students as they get to know their inner talent and their likings as
how they can find the unique ways of finding the solutions to the challenges which they will be
facing in their future. Every student has to be provided with the opportunity to work and learn
something new in a group work, The effect of online vs. blended learning in developing English

12). As in groups all the individuals have to work together which has to be in a collaborative and
co-operative way requiring from one another and not on the basis of individuality. It is essential
for the students to learn skills so that they work in a better way as a team. Some importance of
skills in group work have been explained below-
Critical thinking and problem solving- With the development of skills, students will be
able to develop the critical thinking and problem solving skills. This will be useful in a
group as when students will work in a team on any project then at that time they might
face some difficulty on any topic and they have to find the solution by thinking in a
critical way so it becomes very crucial for the students to develop critical thinking which
will help them in solving the problems. Group work cannot be conducted successful until
skills are being learned by the students and in it critical thinking and problem solving is
important.
Growing confidence- Team work also encourages confidence in a student because when
they work with many people they have to make conversation with other people and for
that they have to increase the confidence, Building integration skills in supply chain and
operations management study programs (Pekkanen and et. al., 2020, p. 54). When
students have to work with many other individuals it grows their confidence
automatically because with that they get to know what things they have to do and how
they have to work. Building and developing confidence is the main factor which will be
important for the students and will be helpful for their career.
Capacity to self manage- It has been seen that when the students are working on an
individual basis then at time they might feel difficulty in managing the things in a proper
way because they have to do alone. But while working in a group, students learn to
manage their things well as they have being given the responsibility of taking the
decisions and managing the work on their own. It is because in a team, work gets divided
and the students have to manage the work timely and with perfection.
How the aspects of skills can be applied by student
In daily life there are many things which has to be faced by students and which result in
either good or bad for them. For the success and growth it is important to the students to learn
and develop new skills which will help them to get new opportunity in their life and they will

also feel confident with the skills which they have learned because at time the skills learned will

Stress management- When the students will be learning skill then at time they will
become confident about themselves as they will be able to solve the issues on their own.

In achieving Growth- When the students will learn new skills they develop themselves
in handling different things on their own. Growth can be accomplished when the students
are having the confidence to work in different areas and that they would be able to make
an excel in their work. In the career also, when the students will be working for the job at
that time there are many things which is required to be developed including the skills.
Communication, critical thinking and some more are the important skills which will not
just be required in a team work but also in the future.
Helps in giving creative ideas- Creative ideas can be developed when an individual is

students will learn about the way they are thinking involving the critical thinking.
Developing creative ideas skill is the most important skill which will not just be required
in the team work but will also be required in the future career for the student.
Achieving new goals- For working in a right direction it is important for the students to
learn and develop some new things which will be helpful to them in choosing their right
direction. New things means developing new skills which will ultimately be helpful to
them in achieving the things which they want.
Opposing argument against the topic
It has been seen that learning new skills can be considered as beneficial for the students
but at the same time there are few limitations which is included with the learning of new skills

and specially the skills which are learned for team work, Doyle and Zakrajsek (2018, p.54).
There are many skills which needs to be considered for learning of new skills and with that
learning individual will become confident but that confident might create conflicts in the team .
Conflicts becomes an internal part of the team because it might be possible that few members
with the development of skills are working on different perspectives and if the other person is not
agreeing with that thing then it might result in conflict. It is sure that the students who will be
working in a team have learned the conflict management skill but at certain point of time when
the view points does not match with that of the other then it cam result in conflicts. Learning the
skill of cooperation is the another factor which can make an impact because despite of having
this skill there could be a time when the student might not participate in the team work fully
This is the another negative point in which the individuals will feel unequal participation of the
team members because they might not be interested in a group work. There are different
perspectives of the students and with this issues there at times are discrepancies which creates
the major problem to the students, Lockwood (2018, p. 32). Learning skills is important but on
the same time it is also time consuming which can consume much of the time. Skills at times are
useful but it is not a sure thing that those skills will be useful for them in their future as the skills
which are learned are on the basis of team work. Students at times with the learning of many
skills might develop the attitude of arrogance which will be not be beneficial for the success of
the team work. The other negative factor is that students might get bored with the things which
they are learning as the individuals needs to be challenged so that they can function in a required
way, LeVine (2018, p. 26). The above mentioned factors opposes the team work and the skills
which will be required for the team. This is because if such negative things will be inculcated in
students or will not help in the progress of the team then at such situations there is not need of
developing the skills. Skill development might be useful and important for the students in the
group work but access of learning can make them arrogant which will not help in forming good
relations.
CONCLUSION
From the above essay, it can be concluded that group work is an important element for
the students as they get to know about many things and all the difficulties gets divided into many
people. When the students will work in a group then they will learn new language and will learn
new skills which will help them in their growth. When they work in a team they will be able to

develop confidence and will give new ideas and will share their thoughts. Students might not be
able to tackle the issues individually but they can handle the issues while working with many.
Component 3- Reflection based on learning log
I have worked in various kind of groups in school time, colleges and even in professional life. I
learn many skills which further help me to develop my personal and professional life. I worked
with many different kind of behavioural people whose having totally different attitude, skills and
vision to see the objective. Hence, the one of the most important thing which I learn while
working in a group or team is that I need to understand my team mates attitude and behaviour
well and then try to communicate with them in such a manner which is easy for them to
understand. While working in a team, I was appointed team leader many times because I lead the
team well with my leadership skill. I allow my team mates to provide me good suggestions and
advices to achieve team goal, Barker and et. al. (2021, p. 12). This further help me to gain their
trust. I also develop my communication skills and time management skill while working in
groups. It is very essential to communicate well when a team is working to achieve a specific
goal. Hence, I communicate well with them and ask my doubts as well as solve their doubts in
case they have any issues. On the other hand, time management skill is learn by achieving team
goal on time by arranging all required resources in such a manner which will provide benefit to
whole team.
I have noticed that I am lacking behind to manage a big team with more than 10
members. Hence, to sort out this issue, I understand that I need to distribute responsibilities
among my team mates. I learn from belbin model of team management that nine roles of team
members are enough to make a team effective and easy to manage team goal. Hence, one of the
member plays the role of Shaper who determine the need for change that in case any change in
objective, resources, teammates and many others are required then Shaper will assist the whole
group. Plants is the team role which is provided to that individual who have good innovative
skills because the main role of Plant is to advice some innovate ideas to achieve team goal before
due date in easy way and many other roles are done by team different skilled members. The
distribution of roles and responsibilities among team members help me to manage more big

to know that a particular task can be done in various ways but the most important is that which
method I have to choose which will help me to develop my skills for my personal and
professional benefits. By solving the issues of team step by step I develop my problem solving
skill and I also learn that problems should be solved in such a manner that it will motivate
employees and influence team members to work properly. I also learn that listening others point
of view is also helpful in many ways. There is no need to work for “I” factor, it is essential to
