EFFECTS OF LACK OF SLEEP 2
Effects of Lack of Sleep
Article one: Designing and delivering dementia services. Retrieved from
One of the main points of the article is that medications for the treatment of dementia-
related disorders are available. Another point of this article is that even though all people in
care homes can experience lack of sleep, people with cognitively impaired sleep deprivation
will have their condition exacerbated when they lack sleep. From the article, I have learned
that there are various stages of sleep and of these stages, the most important based on this
article is rapid eye movement (REM) which occurs within two hours after sleep onset. My
topic seeks to find the effects of lack of sleep. This article answers my topic by clarifying that
lack of sleep worsens the condition of people with cognitively impaired sleep deprivation.
Since lack of sleep worsens the condition of these people, my project will focus to understand
why lack of sleep worsens the condition of people with cognitively impaired sleep
deprivation.
Article two: the importance of Sleep for Teen Mental Health. Retrieved from
One of the main points of this article is that a larger percentage of Americans (more
than 41 million) with children included are getting less than six hours of sleep which is not
healthy for their lives. Also, the article communicates that there is a relationship between teen
depression and lack of sleep. From the article, I have learned that sleep is healthy for a child's
mental growth and children between 3 and 5 years should have not less than 10 hours of sleep
every day for them to have healthy mental growth. My topic seeks to find the effects of lack
of sleep which this article by answered by clarifying that lack of sleep can cause depression
in children. Since this article stipulates that a larger percentage of Americans get fewer hours
of sleep, my research will, therefore, seek to find what causes fewer hours of sleep among the
Americans.

The third article: Understanding the health benefits and importance of sleep.
One of the main points that this article passes across is that sleep is healthy for every
human being and on average, every adult should have 8 hours of sleep at night. Also, the
article communicates that aside from giving a person's body and mind time rest, adequate
sleep helps a person to be alert, information retention and in the growth of muscles. From the
article, I have learned that the brain of a person does not rest even when the person is asleep.
This is so because, during sleep, the brain is working to sort all the information that was
synthesized during the day. Since my topic seeks to find the effect of lack of sleep, this article
has answered this by clarifying that adequate sleep contributes to alertness and memory
retention. Therefore, my project based on this article will seek to find how adequate sleep
contributes to alertness and memory retention.
