The concept of smart city is widely popular in city planning and structural
management. Many approaches behind the growing emphasis to build communicative and
cognitive use of frameworks to use the geographical information and the communication
technology to build an innovative element that has been observed and highlighted in the
urban planning to coordinate the smartness and define critical approaches in making of a
smart city.
The main idea behind a smart city in this globalized world is to have amenities and
touch of digitization in the physical structures to endow a city in an urban area to provide
more functions appearing to the people as less hard to the terms of social, communicative and
intellectual perspectives. Nowadays, the development of a city is depended on various aspects
related to the evolvement of smartness as are the economical, mobility, environmental,
populated and governance participation in the urban development. Regarding all the aspects,
a smart city consists of much more creation of new ideas than just a digitized way of life in a
city. Basically, the concept of smart city is considered as an urban utopia, as this is visualised
as an evolution of living life with a sustainable elements of social, economic and
environmental aspects with the help of the technological and application based future
developments.

Introduction:
This portion of the research analysis will be focused on the understanding of the
concept of smart city. Basically a smart city is an idea of civilization based on development
of the structural environment of an urban area related with people regarding their social,
economic and cultural aspects. Smart City is a universal idea related with different concepts
of willingness to evolve. The idea and concept varies from culture to culture to the people
from country to country. The imagination of a smart city dwells on the planning and the
development of the infrastructures and services.
Discussion:
Some examples of top smart cities of Australia are the Brisbane City Council, City of
Adelaide, City of Ipswich, Sunshine Coast Council and the City of Canterbury Bankstown.
These cities are planned and projected as smart cities to live in the future times in the present.
The increasing development of technology and the mass growth has a clear effect on the
infrastructural development of cities. Thus the idea of living is changing rapidly, the
governments are also backing up in the projects to help the imagination become reality.
Government Project Policies – The Government of Australia has planned many mission and
vision for the maximising effort to build smart cities. The policies are made to set out for the
smart cities are as like Smart Investments, Smart Policies and Smart Technologies (Pettit et
al. 2018).

Smart Investors prioritise the smart city projects in order to meet bigger economic and
substantial growth to access better jobs opportunities, make people choose for affordable
housing communities and switch to environment friendly homes. The treatment of any
project by the investors help the government to fund in the process to help the economy in
long term processes and to ensure the opportunities revolving around the development of
urban areas by innovative financing approaches (Black, Tara and Pakzad 2016).
Government of Australia is creating new policies regarding their smart city deals to
develop the public and urban life and create more business opportunities by financing the
private investment of the people and incentivizing the processes to make cities better to live
for the people and the measure the success ratio of the policies.
Government of Australia has planned to reform the smart cities with the revolutionary
technologies available nowadays to ensure the amenities and technologies are embraced in
the projects are up to the mark to ensure the cities are filled with opportunities that are
planned, the functions are working properly, the economy grows with the sectors revolving
around them. A Smart city means the development of ideas with developing economic, and
environmental changes. Therefore, the cities are needed to be as smart as to take full
advantage of the technologies regarding the transportation, communication and energy
efficiency to make the city and the people and the community be future ready (Alizadeh,
Shearer and Sipe 2015).
Government Project Plans – The Government of Australia is a major contributor in
planning of the smart cities in the country. The important investments that will be valuable
for the state and territorial government are also planned by them in order to draw benefits
form the long term economic returns from the taxpayers. The rising economic values for the

investments in the industries to ensure job opportunities for the growing population are both a
bigger challenges and also a greater opportunity for the government.
Economic Transition – The economy of the Australia is highly depended on the service
sector. Therefore, the government is also planning to shift the dependence on any other sector
to maintain balance in between the economic growth and create more job opportunities
(Ulijaszek 2018). The smart cities will be very helpful the service sectors as planned by the
government is in behind the projects that will provide the right environment for the emerging
and ever growing service sectors.
Job Opportunities – Developing smart cities not only helps the government to resolve the
problems regarding the population, it also ensure to create more job and business
opportunities that may help the government to follow up the projects in many more aspects in
future times (Ghaffarianhoseini et al. 2018).
Housing – A planning of smart city helps to solve problems regarding the housing and
infrastructure of the cities to develop an urban area into emerging and populated area of
people living and business opportunities that solves a great deal of problems of a country.
Therefore, the government helps in the processes to develop the ideas of smart cities into
reality.
Conclusion:
The main purpose of this research paper is to critically analyse the idea and concept of
smart cities. The main purpose of making smart cities is to solve many problems regarding
the rising population to drive in the economic growth and make a sustainable plan to develop
ideas related with the growing population. The government also helps in these development
of projects as to improve the quality of life and enhance the income structure for the people.
