INTRODUCTION
This assignment consists of part E of the project and in this Iot technology is discussed.
The way in which these technologies work in smart cities is evaluated and what is the future of
this.
How organisations should go from here
There is a great growth in cities as it is essential to remain healthy, sustainable and safe
place for individuals to work and live. There are new opportunities which have raised due to
internet of things (IoT). This has enabled to use data for managing traffic, cutting pollution and
making better use of infrastructure and keeping citizens secure and safe. Various organisations
like Nokia have launched IoT for smart cities which is a fully integrated modular as well as
scalable framework that delivers and manages services of smart cities in an effective manner.
This helps master systems integrators and operators to form unifies smart city management. This
unlocks new revenue streams by introducing services of new smart cities. The Internet of things
in smart cities facilitates unlocking new revenue streams by introducing new smart city services
that addresses city council demands1. This is a fully integrated approach that fulfils main
requirement of connected landscape which is shared, scalable as well as secure. In this, each and
every thing can communicate with each other for making smart, sustainable and secure cities in
future2. The IOC i.e. Integrated Operation centre of Nokia orchestrates different smart city
operations in order to have enhanced efficiency, improvised decision making and faster
responsiveness. There are modular solutions which combines tuned elements according to
platforms, connectivity, devices, applications, security layers, subsystems ensuring the right kind
of mix in every city’s demand. The future of IoT has facilitated end to end fully integrated
approach, modular agile secure and scalable, unified smart cities for efficiency and quickly
launching new smart cities with reliability and assured performance.
How readers are prepared for adopting the emerging technology in future
A smart city is defined as an urban centre which hosts a huge range of digital technology around
it’s ecosystem. In smart cities, there is usage of technology for better living expectation of people

and operating as data driven ecosystem. Smart cities use data from vehicles, people, buildings,
etc. This helps in improving lives of citizens and minimising impact of environment3. Data is the
major source of future of smart cities. In smart cities, data is collected from vehicles, residents,
infrastructure of city. The main objective of smart city is to achieve patterns for better improving
living standard for citizens. There is notification on best time to travel, personal energy usage,
improving eating habits, etc. in smart cities4. This will enable to know about everything
regarding city in real time. There are various companies which are involved in making vehicles
that will be used in smart cities. The idea of fully autonomous cars is capable of understanding
surrounding environment for making decisions. Another future aspect is smart energy. This
concept of having zero emission city is dream of many people and this will come into reality
soon. This smart city of future will include host of sources of clean energy for powering the city.
The energy in smart cities is efficient and it required less energy because of data analysis and
data collection. Smart grids will communicate with itself while sending energy to various areas
in smart city. Wind and solar energy are collected throughout the day and sent to definite area.
There can be development in smart grid technology and energy solution conservation so that
dream of smart city will come into reality. The data collection and data analysis is playing an
important role in planning of smart cities. By the collection of data, it is easy for architects and
planners to create buildings which are optimised for individuals. Smart infrastructure helps in
preventing health issues and stopping airborne illness. The future of smart city will provide
various benefits to lifestyle of individuals.
Technological and managerial perspective in adoption and implementation of emerging
technology
It is the responsibility of different organisational leaders to innovate the technological ideas for
creating smart city objectives5. This will help individuals to stay more comfortable life. The
emerging technology of smart city is an important task for organisations in order to enhance

convenience of individuals. The concept of internet of things includes mainly three things
collection and sending of data, receiving information and then acting on it and other things that
can do both sending and receiving. The main benefit of IoT in smart cities is traffic
management. Cities have been expanding thus there is increase in number of drivers and cars.
The current system of unreliable self-supporting drivers is replaced by comprehensive system.
Organisations should focus on smart architecture and energy management. This will have good
impact on environment and building value. The management of organisation are focusing on
products like smart bulbs and elevators6. Other areas in which IoT can be implemented for
improving security in urban areas is video surveillance. This helps investigators or detectives to
monitor live feeds from across an entire city. These people rely on AI systems for detecting and
reporting incidences of crime or the sighting of wanted persons or vehicles.
Some of the smart cities of UK are Bristol, London, Manchester, Birmingham, etc7.
Bristol is a city in London which is a leading smart city of UK. In this city, local businesses have
to test new technologies in real world situations. This city has fibre ground and a heterogeneous
network which helps in 5G testing and radio frequency. London is capital city of UK and is
overseen by Smarter London Together. This was introduced in London's Mayor and there are
basically five missions of this which includes new deal for city data, digital leadership, world
classs connectivity, city wide collaboration, etc. In Birmingham a plan is launched that has
contributed to IoT-focused demonstrator CityVerve. This has laid the groundwork for long-term
planning and development within the city.
CONCLUSION
From the above discussion, it is analysed that IoT has enabled transferring of data in an
effective manner. This has helped people to make their live easier. The main objective of smart
cities is to improve the way in which individuals live their lives. There are various organisations
which are working towards achieving goal of smart cities.
