SMART PHONE REDESIGNING
Field of research:
The statement of research would be, ’Redesigning of smart phones have strong positive effect
on volume of sales and profits of Samsung Electronics Limited globally.’ The smart phones
companies in order to generate higher revenue, are investing capital towards redesigning of smart phones
according to the new demands of the smart phone users in their strategically important global markets like
Australia, the USA and India. This positive impact of redesigning is evident from the increase in sales and
revenue generation of the company. The engineers which the global companies employ to redesign their
smart phones contribute greatly towards attainment of this profitability. This relation between
profitability, introduction of smart phones models redesigned to suit the needs of the customers and the
contribution of engineers have has made the topic worth studying of aspiring engineer managers
(Buganza et al., 2015).
Secondary data source:
The most reliable secondary source of information on the topic is available on link,’ Statista.com.
(2019). Samsung smartphone market share worldwide 2009-2018 | Statistic. Retrieved from
https://www.statista.com/statistics/276477/global-market-share-held-by-samsung-smartphones/’. The link
shows that Samsung Electronics Limited holds high position in the smart phone market globally in spite
of competition of multinational companies like Apple as well as from local smart phone manufacturing
companies. The graph which can be viewed by clicking the link shows that the sale of Samsung smart
phones have reduced due to entry of low cost smart phone producing companies in the last 4 to 5 years.
However, the company still holds more than 20 percent market share in the global smart phone market.
Research question:
The research question is,
1. What impact does redesigning of smart phones have on volume of sales and profits of Samsung
Electronics Limited in global market?
Search items:
Product redesigning, innovation, customer satisfaction, smart phone redesigning, Samsung
Electronics Limited and profitability, engineering management
Connection between of three reviewed journal:
Fan and Yang (2016) mention that smart phone companies embark on redesigning their products
to gain higher profitability and market capitalization. Usman, Iqbal and Khan (2017) clearly point out that
engineers adopt a product line driven engineering approach to ensure that leading smart phone companies
like Samsung are able to align their product line with customer expectations. Thus, these two works can
be related to infer that engineers contribute greatly towards profitability of global leaders like Samsung.
