AI Summary
This report examines the impact of new technologies, particularly the Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) and smartwatches, on healthcare delivery. It begins with an introduction to the healthcare industry and its openness to technological innovations, emphasizing the role of IT in driving significant changes. The analysis focuses on IoMT, describing its interconnected medical devices and the use of smartwatches as a key component, including statistics on the rapid growth of these devices. The report then details the benefits of smartwatches, such as providing notifications for dementia patients, fitness tracking, and monitoring vital signs for diabetic and heart patients. It also acknowledges the role of GPS for location tracking and sleep monitoring. However, the report also addresses drawbacks, including potential data inaccuracy and the high cost of the devices. The conclusion summarizes the effectiveness of IoMT and smartwatches in healthcare delivery, highlighting the potential for further development and integration in the future to support the healthcare industry.

Introduction
The healthcare industry is one of the most fast growing industries today. It has become much
more open and transparent to the innovations to be made with the use of the latest and
modern technologies within the health care sector. The introduction of the IT in this sector is
enabling drastic changes to be happened. The recent statistics and reports are indicating that
with the advent of modern and innovative technologies and their applications within the
healthcare sector is slowly but steadily improving the performance of this healthcare industry
in the global context (Sundaravadivel, Kougianos, Mohanty & Ganapathiraju, 2018). There
are huge opportunities which have been created not only for the healthcare professionals and
expert show are working within this sector but is also providing huge advantages for the
service users who are actually making the most of the use of the different and innovative
health care technologies. In the healthcare industry with the innovations of the new
technologies related to the health care it is actually helping the healthcare professionals and
the experts to improve on their healthcare practices implemented. The role of the healthcare
technologies could not be overstated by the medical and healthcare professionals as the
technologies has also changed the process of health care delivery for the service users.
Analysis
Overview of IoMT
IoMT is the sub division of IoT which has been dealing with the interconnected medical
devices and the medicare. IoMT is a kind of technology which is referred to the connected
infrastructure of the medical devices which can be able to communicate with the health care
IT systems. One of the medical devices which can be a part of this IoMT technology could be
the smart watch which is useful in the high quality healthcare delivery. There are around 31
billion devices and 4 billion people who will get connected through IoMT technology by
2020 (Raghupathi & Raghupathi, 2014). The smart watch is a type of watch which is useful
in sending the urgent messages to the doctors with the help of the watch which the service
users wear it. The doctors can also be able to send the updates on the prescription,
personalised messages to any individual or groups of individuals as well. This is slowly
changing the process of the healthcare delivery for the service users. Smart watch is a
medical device which is based on the IoMT technology. This is said to be a portable device
which is often designed to be worn on the wrist of the users. Smart watches have the in-built
apps and can be often used in recording the heart beat as well the measurement of the intake
of calories and provide other vital signs for the different users using it (Chen et al. 2017). It

can be used by anyone. This is a very useful medical device which is very much convenient
to use. The sales of smart watch have increased from 5 million in 2014 to an estimated 141
million in 2018. The company Apple who has been developing the smart watches has also
seen rapid growth from 13 to 17 percent in 2017 with this new device now it is used for
medical purposes as well resulting in improved healthcare service delivery.
Benefits of the new technology in healthcare
The new technology of smart watch is of having different benefits in the achievement of the
health care delivery for the patients. The device can be able to provide notifications or alarms
to the individuals who have been suffering from dementia. The people suffering from
dementia have the short term memory los problem which is actually making them to have a
gap in the activities they have to perform on a daily basis (Sun, Liu & Zhang, 2017). A sensor
enables the dementia patients and the elderly people in home to be able to get alert messages
and notifications about their health such as their heartbeats and blood pressure. . The smart
watch is easy and portable device that does not require a complicated specification to be
known for using it. The device also provides the details of fitness by having the calorie
measurement technique is provided with the in-built apps displayed on the screen (Kahn,
Kinsolving, Vogel & Christensen, 2017). This is useful for the people who want to stay fit
and healthy all the time. This device is also useful for the diabetic and heart patients as it will
measure the blood sugar levels and even track the heart rates that monitor the status of the
heart (Brzan, Rotman, Pajnkihar & Klanjsek, 2016). This makes easier for the healthcare
professionals in the healthcare delivery. The smart watch is also has the GPS facility
available which is useful for the patients to track the location where they are in at that
moment and this is improving the effective communication for the patients with the
healthcare professionals. This device is also useful for the sleep monitoring. This is making
the measurement of how many hours of sleep an individual have gone through as lack of
sleep can develop long term negative effects on the health of the individuals.
Drawbacks of the new technology in healthcare
In health care delivery the main disadvantage the smart watch has it is the inaccuracy of the
data or the information which is provided to the service users as well the healthcare experts.
It is seen that the data or the information which the device provides for the effective and
efficient health care delivery is not even 80 percent right (Reeder & David, 2016). This

device is hugely expensive for anyone to be able to buy it as this will target the rich service
users only. This device has also very small screen where the healthcare experts could not be
able to see the health related information which is needed for them to provide advice to the
patients according to the information (Wu, Wu & Chang, 2016).
Conclusion
It is evident from the study that with the development of IoMT as the newest technology, it
has high effectiveness in the healthcare delivery. It is concluded that smart watch which is
considered to be the product based on the IoMT technology is making the life of the patients
and the health care experts relatively easy. The use of the smart watch in health care delivery
is proven to be clinical and it is also improving the efficiency of the healthcare delivery.
Hence, smart watch will be developed much more in the future in order to support the health
care industry.
