3. Conduct meeting role-play
Meeting: Discussing social activities on workplace
Roles to play: Administration, HR, Operations manager, staffs
OM : Good afternoon everyone.
As you have gone through the mails, we have summoned the meeting to
discuss about workplace social activities for recreation and learning as
well. I hope you have come up with your ideas too and let us begin with
the presenters’ opinion.
HR : Good afternoon everyone.
As you all have find it in the agenda, I am here to discuss about team
building exercise and practices that can boost the interpersonal
communication skills of the employees, make them confident to
communicate and express freely their problems and indulge learning in
form of recreation.
We all confront situations where we see employees finding it difficult to
cope up with workplace needs or miscommunication happens due to
personal inflicts (Ghasabeh, Soosay & Reaiche, 2015). Being the HR, I
feel it would be better to provide scope to everyone speaking frankly on
his or her behalf. It might not be necessary to open up with dark secrets
but letting yourself know to others can help others understand you and
that will definitely be reducing workplace conflicts.
I hope you do have perspectives to share on my idea and I am expecting
some strong reviews. Thank you.
OM : Well said and definitely a good idea to indulge everyone in open speak

up sessions.
Now our beloved CEO will be presenting his part of the idea.
CEO : Thank You. I am grateful to the entire team for participating in the
meeting with the idea as introduced by OM. I thought of sharing the idea
of doing charity affiliation at least once in two months. I believe sharing
knowledge and economy as well will not reduce our sources in terms of
mental satisfaction. We are here to create a better society and helping
others can help us to understand the world better. I am expecting a very
small percentage of your salary to contribute to the needed individuals of
the state. Every month it will be contributed from your remunerations
and the one day we personally visit them, we will extend that fund to
them along with some other essentials. Moreover, I feel you all will be
able to enjoy the contentment to communicate with them and indulge in
activity. We can visit old age homes, orphanages and school for naturally
challenged individuals.
Please share your opinions on this. Thank you.
OM : We can really look forward to this noble cause. It was a great idea
indeed. It is a pleasure hearing you and contributing to our social
activities list. Can we head on to our next speaker please?
MH : I am mesmerised with the ideas spoken of and what I have come up with
is a common motive of theirs. Fun activities are part of social
communication and activities done together (Tews et al. 2015). I have
thought of asking for monthly partying, theme days, awarding
ceremonies, and sports day and entertainment relaxation. We can focus
on every activity to be conducted once in week or once in two weeks.
Social gathering are always favourable to speak up (Koryak et al. 2015).
OM : That is a great idea as well.
Well what I think is none of the ideas can be left off. Each of the ideas
are to be performed and I believe it is needed. What do you say?
Staff
X
: I do agree. Each of the ideas have their own uniqueness and importance.
Moreover, what I think these three ideas are brief enough to cover all

aspects or ideas we can think of doing the office as social activity.
Staff
Y
: If it feels we are overloaded with ideas and have to select few, we can
synchronize them in shorter categories. Team building exercise and fun
activities are related to one another that require speaking up and
communicating the needs (Shin et al. 2015). We can think that together.
Some days we can conduct the activities in the charity places as well. We
can actually build a coherent learning and recreation system with these
activities.
OM : Very well said.
So let us finalise that there can be no such specific activity to be selected
but all of them.
