INTRODUCTION
Social health care sector is essential for individuals who need social care. It is essential to
carry out things in accordance with the needs and wants of persons. Care workers play an
essential role to give the best services to their service users. Present report based on support work
in social care sector. For this present report, The National Health Service has been taken into
practise. Furthermore, it will discuss about the roles of non-direct care workers and interpersonal
skills required for them. It will also cover the importance of supervision and management in the
development of non-direct care workers. LO 1
P1. Roles of non-direct care workers
Non- direct care workers are not directly connected with the specific job. They are the helpers
who helps in social care sector at different stages (Knott and Scragg, eds., 2016). Such as In
NHS organisation in which non-direct care workers are laundry staff, catering staff, cleaning
staff. Besides, in health care sector, there are several sectors such as residential care homes,
nursing homes, day care centres or individual homes.
In social care centres, non-direct workers are may be belong from office staff,
administrator, gardener, cleaner, security staff, driver, and caterer. Non-direct workers are
the supportive individuals who support NHS.
Each non-direct worker plays an important role in the organisation. It helps to maintain
the working environment of the company in order to ensure the working activities.
Without having support of non-direct workers, none of the organization could perform
better to provide social care services to service users.
Overall, the main role of the social care worker is to help the organisation to achieve the
goals and objectives (Lawrence and et.al., 2016).
Moreover, non-direct worker is a person who takes care of needs of service users and
provide them the best care services. This is the role of non-direct workers in social health
care sector.

P2. Interpersonal skills required for non-direct care workers
To perform the task in social care sector, it is essential for the non-direct workers to have
some interpersonal skills in order to serve better services to service users. Non-direct workers
who support the work of social care sector in order to enhance the services of the organisation
(Baldwin, 2016). There are some interpersonal skills given as below which are essential in non-
direct workers.
Verbal communication skills:
Listening skills
Use of Jargon/Slang Speaking skills
Non Verbal communication skills:
Personal space
Dress and presentation Body language and gestures
Care value services:
Promoting individual rights and beliefs
Maintaining confidentially- this is very essential duty which need to be performed by
them as they are indulging in several types of information so it is their duty to protect all
data from been hacked or stole by anyone else.
On the basis of given interpersonal skills of non-direct workers (Payne, 2015). It is
necessary to have all these skills in order to treat service users in more effective way. Like
communication skills of the workers should be polite and calm with the service users. So that,
they can express his actual feelings with them. Social care sector is very much important sector
in order to take care the health of services users and give them best services. Without having
interpersonal skills, non-direct workers cannot assist the patient in a perfect manner. Besides,
listening skills is the better way to understand what patient actually wants to say. So that, worker
get understand the needs and wants of the patient (Lovatt and et.al., 2015). LO 2
P3. Role of non-direct care workers in the operations of a team
Operations team is the team that handles the organisational functions or day to day
activities in NHS. It is the government health care organisation which takes care of the needs of
the service users. Moreover, the objective of this department is to handle the functions in an

effective manner. Non-direct workers in operation team as a manager, health and care worker,
volunteers, organiser, colleagues. Besides, main purpose of the organization is to provide safe
and inclusive services to service users. Along with that, in order to enhance the services of the
social care services (Webber and et.al., 2015). Such as manager the main role of the manager is
to manage the functions of the organisation in order to meet the organisation objectives. Besides,
non-direct workers are also very much essential in order to build the effective relationship with
the service users. Non-direct workers also take care of organizational needs and fill the gap
between the service users and service providers (Curry and Abrams, 2015). Operation
department is the department which takes care of the information of service user and keep record
of his medicines and check-up list. LO 3
P4. Role of non-direct care workers in maintaining health, safety and security in the caring
environment
Maintain health in the caring environment:
Non- direct workers are the individual who also look upon the activities to maintaining health,
safety and security needs of service users.
It provides the services to maintain health in the caring environment (Turner‐Daly and Jack,
2017).
Maintain safety in the caring environment:
Such as follows the code of conduct, take care of hygiene procedures adopted by the
organisation, maintain the high levels of cleanliness like non-direct workers responsibility to take
care of the personal equipment and materials used by the service providers.
Moreover, non-direct workers also adopt PPE Personal protective equipment to take care of the
environment. Moreover, the main reasons of the organisation is to take care of the needs of
service users so that they feel happy and satisfied with the services of social health care centres.
Maintain security in the caring environment:
Another obligation of non-direct is to safe the storage and disposal of waste products in order to
maintain the healthy environment.

They keep environment away from unhealthy and hazardous. Along with that, another role of
non-direct in caring environment is to take care to ensure the entry and exist procedures of the
organization.

In social health care sector there are different non-direct workers who has different roles
and responsibilities against the social care services (Knott and Scragg, eds., 2016). Such as there
are different post on which non-direct workers are working such as Gardner, service care worker,
driver etc. so that, each non-direct worker have their own roles and responsibilities.
P5. Importance of supervision and management of non-direct care workers
The main purpose of supervision and management is to promote the services of social
care and provides the best health care services to the service users. Moreover, supervisors helps
to supervise or monitor the works of non-direct workers weather they work as per the task or not
and give guidance to them for better performance (Curry and Abrams, 2015). Along with that,
another main role of supervision and management is to promote and maintain the good practise
within the working environment. Besides, supervisors also help and support non-direct care
workers in the tough situations to maintain the healthy relationship. They also provide training
and development sessions for the non-direct workers. This process helps to maintain the positive
environment, improved relationship, enhance value appreciated respect and reduce the retention
rates (Webber and et.al., 2015).
M2 The importance of supervision and management
Every individual non- direct worker needs are different. For that, supervision and
management is different in the caring sector (Health & Social Care Support Workers. 2018).
Every worker has their own work and responsibility according to which they work.

Inadequate supervision may give negative effects on the organisational working. It may
create uncertain situation and risk factors. Without controlling the negative activities, non-direct
workers cannot develop and may get failed to learn new skills and knowledge (Curry and
Abrams, 2015).

From the above discussion, it can be concluded that non-direct social worker is from
different types and having different roles and responsibilities. According to which they work.
