Introduction
Social Entrepreneurship
Social Entrepreneurship is a kind of innovative business, which is practiced by the individual,
who recognizes the problems faced by society and forms the strategy to solve them. They are
like a social worker who works for the welfare of society and put their emphasis on bringing
positive changes through the application of entrepreneurial norms and procedure (What is Social
Entrepreneurship).
In the context of this concept, Bill Drayton, a famous entrepreneur reviewed the need for social
entrepreneurship and said “The Entrepreneur is required whenever the society is facing any
challenge or is going through the phase where the new opportunities can be availed. Such a
situation compels the problem-solver to grab those chances and convert their idea into the
solution which helps the society to move forward.” Different scholar and business analyst agree
to the fact that social entrepreneurship is a continuous improvement process, which is crucial for
the stability of the society. Its importance can be observed in Egypt, where the country is
struggling to find remedies to deal with the social crises (Saifan).
The Wave of Social Entrepreneurship and innovation in Egypt
While going through the newspapers or television, one can get an idea that the conditions in
Egypt are degrading and hardly there is any scope of improvement. The country is suffering from
issues like low literacy rates, lack of employment opportunities which has led to a negative
impact on the mentality of the individuals. Moreover, Due to the limited resources and poor
management skills, the government is not able to assist the people of Egypt.

However, to deal with the impacts of such issues on society, the demand for social
entrepreneurship has risen (Younis). Therefore, the focus of the report is to provide an overview
of the efforts put up by the entrepreneurs to improve and develop the society of Egypt (Abdou
and Ebrashi).
Social Projects currently operating for the welfare of Egypt:
Social entrepreneur is those peoples who are on the mission to uplift society and raise the living
standard of the community people. In the economy of Egypt, they have emerged as saviors that
are spreading their wings in every sector, whether it is, education or health. Today the youth of
Egypt has come together and are pioneering the Egyptian community. While focusing on the
alternative solutions they identified that such development can be done while earning the profit.
Alashanek Ya Balady, Educate-me, and Healthy Egyptians are few innovative ventures who
have come forward to take eradicate Social issues. The social development projects run by the
entrepreneurs (15 Startups Doing Social Good in the Arab World):
1. Alashanek Ya Balady:
It is an NGO, who are working to support society by curbing the poverty from Egypt. Before
declaration as an NGO, the institution used to campaign around the colleges to raise awareness
among the youngster. The aim of the NGO is to enhance and improve the potential of the people
by providing them employment opportunities so they can identify their potential, develop their

strategy, which communicates the values like “Once you taught the amateur man to how to catch
the fish, he becomes enough self-reliant to feed him and his family. Currently, the NGO is
conducting the training and educational sessions for the people. Moreover, it assists the
government by volunteering in social development activities. Furthermore, to promote the
interest of the people it has collaborated with the public, private sectors and 11 government
administrations (Purpose, Vision, and Values).
Impact:
On the Independent level: Through its support and campaigns, the country was able to achieve a
mark above the poverty level, and the community people are able to avail the social facilities like
health care, and education from which they were earlier deprived-off. This has led to an increase
in the standard of living. Moreover, it is working to upgrade the education system in Egypt so
that the student can improve its academics and they can get exposure related to other circular
activities. This will help the students to build leadership and hard working skills.
2. Rise Egypt.

investors who are sponsoring the efforts of budding social entrepreneurs who are ready to face
the development challenges to covert Egypt into one of the powerful countries. This Nonprofit
institution has supported social entrepreneurs like (Rise Egypt):
a. Recyclobekia:
E-waste is an electronic waste, which is emitted from the wastage of electronic devices. As per
the report published by the Population Reference Bureau on sustainability, Each year, more than

professional and they lack management expertise. While practicing the process of combustion,
they discrete the particles of gold and heat the rest that is including dangerous materials like lead
that can deteriorate the health of human beings.
Therefore, to promote the sustainable culture across Egypt, the group of 20 students has started
Recyclobekia in 2011. Today, they are discovering the innovative solution to manage the e-waste
so that it does not create any harmful impact on the ecosystem. To revamp the negative
consequences of technological waste, it is promoting the go-green culture by recycling an
unutilized material that is used in the assembling of electronics for re-using them in the process
of resale. In Cairo, which is a capital of Egypt, there they are collecting the all type of e-waste
and furthermore, the entire collected waste is further delivered to recycling production houses,
where they re-use the material in the manufacturing of the products to make the products
available in the market (Recylobekia).
Impact:
Until now 15000 metric tons of technological surplus has been recovered and re-used in the
production by Recyclobekia. In present, they are providing their eco-friendly services in more
than 45 local and other international companies. They are gathering the company old Pcs and
other office devices so they can reprocess all such techno that discharge e-waste in the
environment. As it is recognized as the first “Green” e-waste “re-cycled” organization, it has
collaborated with the industrial plant located in Germany and the U.S. to ensure the
transformation of waste in an eco- friendly way. The company provides job opportunities to
them, thus creating a positive effect on overall society (Recylobekia).

the standard of living and will contribute to economic development.
To cover the nation into one of the smart developing nations, the government must invest in
innovative technology and collaborate with other nations.

must conducting counseling sessions for the family so they can understand the importance of
