MAIN BODY
Social learning Theory from Albert Bandura
Social learning Theory from Albert Bandura emphasis that individuals learn from
experiences of one another through observation, imitation and modeling. It lays focus on
significance of observing and monitoring patterns, emotional reactions and behavior of others.
This theory lay focus on four aspects (Devi, Khandelwal and Das, 2017). First one is attention, it
is very necessary for individual to pay attention while performing any activity in health and
social care setting. By this they will be able to identify gaps in their performance. Second one is
Retention, in this individual must retain what they have learned from behavior of others. As
much of the social learning cannot be applied immediately, this must be kept in memory of
observer so that they can implement it later in health and social care setting. Third element is
reproduction; it basically means the skill to behave in same way as the model provided. This
stage can be difficult for observer to perform in health and social care setting, they may not be
properly able to imitate it (Nabi and Prestin, 2017). Last element in social learning theory
includes motivation. It is basically the spirit to copy behavior, it is directly linked to rewards and
punishment aspect. In health and social care aspect, observer will only perform behavior if they
feel like reward related to performing activities is worth the value. There is various criticism
related to this theory as it is unable to explain nature and is unable to understand complexity of
human behavior.
