INTRODUCTION
Business communication refers to communication and exchange of ideas and thoughts in
context of the business. There are several ways in which communication is carried out in
business organisation. This report will discuss about communication technology in context of
Tesco. This report will discuss about using social media for workplace communication and its
usage, advantages and disadvantages. While implementing social media for workplace
communications there are several factors that need to be considered by the Tesco.
Uses of social media in workplace for communication
Social media has become integral part of life of people and this is why this can also be
used by organisations for their internal communication Holland, Cooper & Hecker, (2016).
Tesco can use and implement social media because of these reasons-
This enhances and builds personal relationships of employees with their co-workers and
this improves their communication quality in both formal as well as informal ways. These
relationships also contribute in effective team working in the Tesco.
Using social media for internal communication is also easy and there are several options
available for the company. This means that Facebook. Twitter, Company’s Blog. These
are some of the ways through which Tesco can implement internal communication and
this also help in connecting employees effectively.
Social media in Recruitment and Selection
This is one of the important use of social media in Tesco, this facilitate search for the
candidate and along with that it also help in ensuring effective selection of the employees in
Tesco Bossio and et.al., (2020). This is among several other uses of social media within
organisation. Tesco can post vacancy through social media, such as Facebook, LinkedIn and
social media also help in identifying and understanding suitability of the candidate for the job
role.

Implementation of social media for organisational communication has several advantages
for Tesco that are-
Improving Information Delivery and Discovery is one of the advantages of the social
media. This means Tesco can effectively rapidly deliver the information through social
media and employees and users of the information can easily discover the information.
Attracting and retaining attention of the users of the information is another benefit of
using social media for Tesco. This means that mainstream ways of communication and
sharing information often get overlooked and neglected by employees and on the other
hand using social media and sharing information through social media will help Tesco to
attract attention of the employees and encourage them to go through the information and
follow-up.
Innovation in communication
In context of outthinking organisational communication, social media allows a significant
advantage. This means that all other areas are requiring innovation for continuing success.
Innovation in organisational communication through social media will also be helpful for
continuing success in organisational communication Ewing, Men & O’Neil, (2019). This means
that through this innovation in workplace and organisational communication Tesco will be able
to engage employees with the information and knowledge that can be useful for their
performance within organisation.
Disadvantages of using social media in workplace to communicate
Implementing and employing social media in organisation is useful and have several
advantages but this also associates some disadvantages for Tesco-
Potential Wastage of Time is one of the disadvantage associated with the uses of social
media at workplace. This means that when social media is being used for organisational
and workplace communication it cannot be guaranteed that its use will limit to only
workplace communication. Social media has one of the biggest disadvantage and this is

related to wastage of time because of elements that are not useful. This make negative
effect on the productivity of the employees.
Safety and security of the information
This means that social media is being used for sharing information but is possess
significant threat to information of the organisation and employees Xie, (2018). Tesco need to
consider that any kind of sensitive and private information shared through social media can harm
its privacy and this is one of the biggest disadvantages of social media communication in the
organisation. This disadvantage exist because of social media in organisational communication
involve more than 2 parties and this is why it becomes a disadvantage for the Tesco to use social
media.
Factors to be considered while implementing in the workplace
There are several factors that need to be considered while implementing social media for
organisational communication. Some of the factors that need to be considered are as follows-
Public safety communication
This is one of the important factors to consider this means that while connecting
employees with social media network regarding organisational communication. From the
perspective of safety two things should be considered be Tesco. One is that employee
information being shared remains safe in social media communications. Another is that when
social media is used for organisational communication Tesco should ensure safety in
authentication of the employees. This is because weak safety and security for authentication can
create threat for organisational information on social media platform.
Ensuring adequate and correct information is shared
Twitter is mainly used by Tesco for social media communication and this has become a
key source of information that is trusted by users. Tesco employs employees in large number and
Twitter can be used by them to access the information. This requires that all information shared
and adequate as well as correct.
Ensuring employees are well trained regarding time management

This means that one of the factors associated with negative impact on the productivity
and performance of the employees Madsen, (2017). This is why this factor should be considered
that employees are educated about use of social media at Workplace by management of Tesco.
This will reduce negative impact on the productivity and employees will have knowledge
regarding how they should use social media at work.
CONCLUSION
On the basis of above discussion it can be concluded that social media can be effectively
utilised for organisational communication and has several benefits. But along with that it is
important to understand and identify the disadvantages and factors to be considered while
implementing social media for organisational communication.
