INTRODUCTION
Social media is the social networking technology which is used for communication and
for online sharing of data or information, ideas messages etc. and for increasing publicity. This
report will explain the positive and the negative impacts of the social media during the work
hours in the company. Lastly, suggestions for the use of social media are given to the social
media director of M and M company.
MAIN BODY
Positive impact
Social media strengthens the professional or work relationship of the workers with each
other which helps them to easy share their views, thoughts or knowledge as well as important
data or the information with each other so that they can find rapid solution for their issues or
problems at the workplace helps them to develop their motivation for the work. Social media at
the workplace unites all the employees together, increase their connectivity and social
collaboration that means it encourages the idea of team work which results into increasing their
efficiency towards their work along with developing their performance level ultimately increases
the productivity of the organisation (van Zoonen, Verhoeven and Vliegenthart, 2017) .
Social media helps employees to frame personal relationship with their colleagues which
enhance their interest level towards the work as it creates a friendly environment in the company,
influence them for their regular coming to the company and also increases chances for their
retention in the company. Social media is used as a communication channel which improves
internal interaction between employees and also creates a positive relationship in between
leaders and employees helps in easy decision making to achieve the goals and objectives of the
organisation and in maintaining positive and friendly work environment at the company. Social
media can also helps firm to design its positive image as well as increasing its publicity
(Leonardi and Vaast, 2017).
Negative impact
High use of social media can become distraction for the employees as it influence them to
check their accounts irresistibly during work hours. It can also can consume valuable time of the
workers as it is highly interesting than the work which results in decreasing their productivity as
most of the time is spent on the social media instead of the work and they get highly dependent
on the use of social media for their work (Shami and et.al., 2015). Employees can also practise

the laws like “right to freedom of speech” against the firm as the firm protects their data from
leakage and restrict the use of social media during work hours which can also influence them to
have argument with the entity for the limits which has implemented on the usage of social media
by the company while organisation cannot allow its employees to use unrestricted social media
as it can be harmful for the company that it may lose its important or confidential data to other
entities (El Ouirdi and et.al., 2015).
Director of Social media of the M and M company should use the restricted social media
in the firm as it will increase connectivity and will create and strengthen the personal or
professional relationship of the employees with each other and with the leader of the company
without being worried about losing the confidential data or information. It will also develop
decision making of the company meanwhile developing their work performance level. Social
media usage will enhance the interest level of the employees by designing friendly environment
for them and will also increase retention of the employees. Social media will help workers to
share important information with each other along with increasing their motivation towards the
work as it will help them find easy and rapid solutions for their issues related to work or to work
place (Wang and et.al., 2016). Director of social media of the M and M company should also
use social media for achieving the goals and objectives of the organisation as it will enhance the
efficiency of the workers because they have easy solutions to their work. It also helps in
implementing team work in the firm which is very helpful to reach success and to develop
productivity level of the entity.
CONCLUSION
From the above study, it has been summarised that the social media director of the M and
M company should use social media at the work place during working hours as it is highly
beneficial to the company because it increases the internal communication, helps to share views
and ideas of the employees, solves their problems easily as well as it increases efficiency and the
performance level of the workers as well as it gives them the idea of team work as well as it
helps in achieving high results and in developing its productivity.
