INTRODUCTION
Social media is defined as the websites and applications that are designed for individuals
in order to share content efficiently, quickly and in real time. Social media also consists of
different applications on smartphones, tablets and computers of people. Social media helps in
sharing of photos, events, opinions, etc. in real time and this has changed the way of living of
individuals. The present report includes positive and negative aspects of social media on the
internet (Bartholomew, and Mason, 2019). This also consists of challenges and measures of
security and privacy used for online services of social media. In third part of this report, two
social media are selected and compared on the basis of their features and applications.
Compare and contrast between the positive and negative aspects of Social media on the Internet
Social media is used by most of the individuals for communicating with each other. This
is the fast growing technology that has made communication easier. Different people are able to
share their thoughts, ideas, views, opinions, information for growing and developing of society
and individual. By using social media, the way of interacting with individuals across the world
has changed. Social networking sites allows individuals for communicating and remaining in
contact with friends and finding new people to talk. The social media websites helps people to
find other individuals having similar interest and in this way they can develop good bond and
relationship (Gandhi, 2019). There are several groups present within the social networking sites
and these groups provide innovative ideas and strategies that will help people to get new and
innovative ideas. Social networking helps in creative expression by the use of messaging and
blogging to post various stories and ideas. Social media is a tool which helps in sharing
information, pictures and ideas to the other person who can have benefits from such shared
information in the market. In the today's world, social media has become internal part of the
person as well as for the organisation for having competitive advantages in the market. The
young audience are the dominant users of the social media from the whole population in the
market. They share information about their personal life thought the medium of Facebook,
Instagram and twitter and many more (Kannan, Ramakrishnan, and Ojo, 2019). Businesses
owner also use such platform for placing its product at the target market so that they keep
attracting new customer and adopted new changes in the environment. Social media is a
controversial discussion in the market as it can be blessing for some people and for another it

can be a curse for them. Some people thinks that social media is destroying their personal life as
social media lack the real life human relationship. On the other hand ,some of the people think
that social media is a blessing to the humanity as it is more convenient and is much faster in the
real life.
Advantages of social media:
Social media allows people to stay connected across the global. It gives people sense of
belongingness in the community. It gives a common man a voice with a complete freedom of
expression to reach out the lager number of audience. The one of important advantages about of
social media is that it is a great device for the education. Student can get knowledge from just
one click away and educated themselves about various topic. People are more updated with the
use of social media like knowing about different issues which are occurring across the world. In
the personal context,social media helps in creating strengthens bond with the loved one and
distance is not a barrier in the social media platform. Companies use social media to promote
their product and service in the marketplace (Pallas, Eidenfalk, and Engel, 2019). Organisation
with the help of social media they can find our the taste and preferences of the customer and
according design their strategies right from what product and services are to produced in the
market till their reach their target audience in the different segment.
Disadvantages of social media:
Despite of having good advantages of social media, it is considered to be harmful
elements for the society. People are getting addictive with the use of social media in their day to
day activities and this is becoming a main cause of depression in the recent times. Their is
disrupts sleeping patterns in adults and effect the mental growth in the children (Prasad, and
Rohokale, 2020). In the text of privacy social media lack behind it saving the personal
information shared on the social media. The haters can misuse the personal informational shared
on the Facebook, Instagram and etc. even organisation faces problem like competitor spread
wrong information about the product and services in the marketplace.

Ray, 2019). under social media challenges organisation have a issue regarding leaking the
important information about the deeds of the partnership. Security issue is leaking about the
codes of the organisation system. Organisation faces security issues as protecting the online
stores which distribute the product and services. There are various issues which are concern
about the leaking the important information about the individual and that for organisation in the
market. Some of the issues are account hacking and impersonation, stalking and harassment,
getting password for accessing the system and many more. Security and privacy are two main
issues of any organisation when they use social media as a path to share information. A Security
issue occurs when hacker gets unauthorized access to site which is protested with the coding and
written language (Spears, Carlson, and Stan, P., Visa International Service Association, 2019).
On the other hands, privacy issues is unwarranted access of private information don't necessary
involve security issues. The breach of security site opens a way to access the private information
for the client. Account hacking is a process where hackers get the unauthorised access to client
account and can spread wrong information in the social media. It is more effective in spreading
the scams in the market and spread virus in the marketplace. Even private social account
contain a wealth of personal information which can be leaded to get credit card information.
Other things is stalking on social media, online stalking have become well know threats in the
marketplace and as well as in the friend circle. In some of the organisation employers ask
employees to share their password for Facebook account, LinkedIn account to make sure that
employees is not leaking the organisation information in social media but sometimes employers
or the member of the management make misuse of the password shared or the information they
gets from the account of employees. Other disadvantages is that everyone has a smartphones
with them which can show their current location to the people who are added in the contact this
increase the chance of losing privacy and security in the marketplace. Most of the social media
sites have useful information which can be hacked such as email-address available at social
media for example, one of the common technique used by the identity hacker is clicking on the
forgot password and then recover password from the email-address (Tosun, 2019). This social
media provide a location facilities in the application tools which are used by the different user to
see the location of user in near by their areas , this will increase the chance of thieves to the
home and business environment. For example ,posting the the vacation in the a social media

provide information to the thieves about travelling plan and in abstract the important
information from the home as well as from the business information. In today's world, where
sharing information is become easily for the people and knowing more about other person
thought social media is trending in the marketplace. Their are lot of hacker in the atmosphere
which can leak the information if they got the security and privacy access about the organisation
system . Social media is not trusted source of sharing personal information on the social media .

There are different kinds of social media networks used by million of people across the
world. There are both negative as well as positive impact of social media. The main benefit that
the social media is providing to people is the worldwide connectivity that helps individuals to
make friends easily wherever they go. There are various well known social media networking
communities such as Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest,etc. When an individual is allowed to
participate within a community, it is easy for selecting community which have similar likes and
dislikes to build network around these commodities (Zhou, 2019). There are various social
media sites that incorporates an instant messaging feature that helps people to exchange
information in real time through chats. The two social media sites selected in this assignment are
Facebook and LinkedIn.

business people. This has helped people to find business people easily. LinkedIn is undergoing
development for developing new data tools and and helping people to find jobs, people, etc. This
company has strength within market as it is a professional network in the world. This company
has strong data analysis capabilities and skills. Generally, LinkedIn is used by all successful
managers, employees, employers, white collar professionals, college degree people. The business
value of LinkedIn is driven by the ability of growing, monetising and expanding professional
networks (Facebook vs. LinkedIn - What's the Difference?,2012.). LinkedIn is defined as a well
run organisation that is filling needs of professional networking and recruitment.

communicating with each other. The use of social media has changed way of interaction with
other individuals. There are both pros and cons of using social media on internet. Security and
privacy of data on the social networking sites is main issue and concern as people rely on these
sites and use the social media applications only when the application promises strong securing of
data.
