a significant impact on people’s lives. The popularity of social media has changed the way
humans interact with each other and their behaviour (Subramanian, 2017). Along with
developed countries, the impact of social media sites can be easily seen in developing
countries as well. The thesis will argue that the popularity of social media sites has a
significant impact on human interactions and worldwide which has affected them in both
positive and negative manner. This essay will evaluate both positive and negative impacts of
social media on human interactions and worldwide.
The use of social media sites in interpersonal communication has increased
significantly because it has become easier for people to share with others on a global stage.
The use of social media sites is considerably higher among younger people who use websites
such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram as a communication tool to express them. As per
Subramanian (2017), one of the biggest positive impacts of social media on human
interactions is the sheer number of individuals with whom people can interact globally.
People are able to instantly connect with thousands of people all over the world through their
social media profiles. This has created new business opportunities for corporations and
people to offer and advertise their products and services to a global audience. These
developments have changed the way of interpersonal communication for people forever by
expanding the size of their audience.
Organisations situated worldwide use social media sites as tools to expand their
business and improve customer services which have changed the way companies manage
their operations. According to Schroeder (2018), it has become easier for corporations and
individuals to visually co-presence by posting videos and going live on social media sites
which have changed the way how corporations and individuals interact with each other.
Conversations between people have changed into texting on social media sites where they

these platforms to advertise their product to customers, sell them and provide better customer
services to them.
There are various negative impacts of the popularity of social media sites on human
interactions and worldwide. Negativity and depression have become major issues with the
popularity of social media sites because physical interactions have reduced significantly. The
use of internet has become a part of people’s everyday life, especially among younger
individuals (Schroeder, 2018). Excessive use is adversely affecting the health of youngsters,
and it makes it difficult for them to have a normal social life.
Conclusively, along with positive factors, there are various negative influences of the
popularity of social media sites which creates challenges for individuals and organisations
across the globe. They are effective tools to communicate with others and share information
with them which improve human interactions. Businesses use them for advertising, selling
and providing customer services. However, they have created health and social issues among
individuals which are necessary to be addressed.
