Social Media and its Impact
Social media means any personal exchange of information or contact on the internet that
takes place by smartphone, device or tablet. There are several applications and blogs that
contribute to making it happen. Today, social media is increasingly becoming the most
important and common source of contact. Social networking and social media provide users
with quicker exchange of content, news, ideas and information. It helps a lot of people to
communicate and make new friends and share your life’s information and experiences. It is
hard to imagine that just over a decade ago, our way of life was very different from the way it
is today. While certain social media platforms were long before that, most of the population
did not really see the need or use for them. Much of them did not even have keys to them. It
wasn’t until Facebook, Twitter and smartphones came along that things finally began to
improve.
Social media has been part of our lives, and at this stage we can’t really picture the future
without multiple social media platforms. As anything else, social media has a good and a bad
side and thus has a positive. Most people think that social media ruins human contact and
personal interactions in real life. While some believe that social media is a gift to the world.
Social networking makes human contact much more accessible and much easier than actual
human interaction, makes globalization a possibility, offers an outlet for introverted people to
express themselves and also benefits the growth of foreign partnership, be they commercial
or social. Social media engagement platforms have fundamentally changed my life and how
we communicate with each other and with the world around us. Here are the top places that
have been influenced by social media in my everyday life.
First, where I get the news. Every morning before checking Yahoo! or Google News or an
online newspaper site like MalaysiaKini or Berita Harian, I'll first look at the stories that my
friends and the people I follow post via Twitter or Facebook. After all, I didn't select
publishers from newspapers and other magazines, but I chose people and groups that I follow
on Twitter, Facebook, or other social networks. Friends on social media are rapidly becoming
people's trusted sources of information, more so than search engines. Tech blogger Mark
Cuban recently said, “For the first time ever, more people have found my blog via Twitter
and Facebook than via Google.”

Second, how I get to know and keep in contact with people. People may still meet at social
venues, but it's easier than ever to find people who share our interests through social media,
whether it's through Facebook groups or Twitter followers. If my interests lie in an obscure
field, such as French poetry in the 15th century or Nepalese art, there is probably a Facebook
group about it, and a Twitter search is likely to lead to other people talking about the same
subject. Of course, there's only so much interaction that can happen through a social network,
but I am expanding these online interactions to face-to - face meetings through Tweetups and
other in-person events. In other words , social media is constantly being used to discover and
sustain old and potentially new friendships.
Besides, how I start and do business. I can not deny the degree to which social media now
has an effect on my life. It's easier than ever to start and start a company today, due in large
part to social media. A modern and easier way of communicating is through the sharing of
images, stories, news, blogs , online discussions, etc. In return, companies gained from a long
shot only by pressing a button.. With the help of the Internet a company no longer is
dependent on a particular customer base to survive because now it can reach out to a
worldwide audience within seconds.
