Digital Media has become a handy tool in the hands of Marketers. During the previous week,
I learned and practice many concepts associated with SMM or Social Media Marketing.
SMM is an integral and most versatile tool in the Kitty of digital media. It allows direct
interaction between the manufacturers and customer where they can exchange opinions and
educate each other about certain aspects related to the services and their exact utilization.
This unique nature of the SMM demands an SMM cycle plan. In broad terms an SMM cycle
plan refers to a process where Marketer comes up with a proposition, followed by the queries
of the prospective customers. In the third step of the process, marketer satiates the queries of
the customers and generates a call for action. This loop based communication increases the
chance of a conversion by multiple folds (Kim, 2012).
“Listen” and “Observe” are two very important components of this SMM cycle. In general,
companies appoint two separate departments for this purpose. One department collects the
feedback and consolidates them into a set of questions. The representatives from the side of
the think tank of the team prepare the answer for general and specific questions. After it, the
media advocates take the charge, they act as an influencer in the process and continue the
loop until it reaches a conclusion. It is my personal observation that SMM is picking up as a
first choice for the marketers because it allows them to generate follow up calls as part of a
natural progression of the communication (Ko, 2012).
I am keen to explore SMM more in the classroom under the able guidance and practical
insights of my professors. It will be interesting for me to explore some real-world examples
