Introduction
The social media has provided a platform for people to express their feelings and views
without having to worry about their societal status.
Background: The social media emerged at the beginning of the 21st century and in quick
time, made its inroads into the mainstream (DeMers, 2019). The phenomenon took the world by
storm, as within few years, it became the most used and most followed media. In this fast-paced
world, the social media has provided people with a medium where they could receive news and
other information in their hands.
Thesis: The essay aims to argue that social media has improved people’s lives by making
important information easily accessible and the opportunity to provide feedback instantly as
well.
Body paragraph 1:
Topic sentence: In the age of technological advancement, people could hardly afford to
stay behind in terms of being updated with what is happening around them.
Support: The social media, which include numerous applications and sites such as
Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn and many more, have features that allow people to make
comments and give feedback. Allaire (2016) conducted a study on the role of social media
especially during disasters and found that the online information circulated through the social
media accounts helped save numerous lives during the disaster. The author commented that since
the social media was accessible to people even without a desktop computer or laptop, they could
provide immediate updates and help people through their smart phones.

Conclusion: Therefore, as evident from the discussion above, the social media has
improved people’s lives in more than one way.

Topic sentence: The social media has also served as a platform where unemployed
youths could have important information about jobs and even help in startups.
Support: LinkedIn, a social media site that came into being in the year 2002, is used
majorly for networking by professionals including job seekers and employers posting job
advertisements. After it was developed in an application, the platform has been able to extend its
reach to millions of people around the world looking for job. Nikolaou (2014) clearly explains
the benefit of social media while stating that both LinkedIn and Facebook are extensively used
by human resource managers to seek suitable candidates for their organization. The reason is that
these sites provide an ease of use for the users.
Conclusion: As evident thus, social media helps people improve their lives by have easy
access to job opportunities.

Topic sentence: Opponents of this view argue that social media has ruined people’s lives
by making them feel inferior to others as they do not receive enough likes and comments on their
profiles.
Support: It has been found in some studies that social media has negatively influence
people’s lives by making them feel depressed about their sad situation. Chowdhry (2019) carried
out a study on the negativity spread by Instagram where he used the study results of the Royal

studies that people who use Instagram feel depressed when they see others enjoying a happy life.
Conclusion: To counter this, it could be stated that it depends on the users the way they
want to use the social media and the social media itself does not make people feel depressed.

In the end, it could be reiterated that the social media has improved people’s lives by
making important things easily accessible. The supporting evidences used in the paper have
further justified the stated argument. It could hence be stated that social media has improved
people’ lives and will continue to do so in the future as well.
