The social media has provided a platform for people to express their feelings and views
without having to worry about their societal status.
Background: The social media emerged at the beginning of the 21st century and in quick
time, made its inroads into the mainstream (DeMers, 2019). The phenomenon took the world by
storm, as within few years, it became the most used and most followed media. In this fast-paced
world, the social media has provided people with a medium where they could receive news and
other information in their hands.
Thesis: The essay aims to argue that social media has improved people’s lives by making
important information easily accessible and the opportunity to provide feedback instantly as
well.
Body paragraph 1:
Topic sentence: In the age of technological advancement, people could hardly afford to
stay behind in terms of being updated with what is happening around them.
Support: The social media, which include numerous applications and sites such as
Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn and many more, have features that allow people to make
comments and give feedback. Allaire (2016) conducted a study on the role of social media
especially during disasters and found that the online information circulated through the social
media accounts helped save numerous lives during the disaster. The author commented that since
the social media was accessible to people even without a desktop computer or laptop, they could
provide immediate updates and help people through their smart phones.
